Ajman: GMC hosts seminar on recent advances in medicine

Ajman, Mar 9: The leading healthcare provider in UAE, GMC Hospital, Ajman organized the third annual seminar on 'Recent Advances in Medicine'.

In his welcome note Akbar Moideen Thumbay, Director Operations – Healthcare and Retail Divisions, Thumbay Group UAE said that the visionary zeal of the founder president Thumbay Moideen laid the foundation for the establishment of Gulf Medical University and GMC hospitals, which today are leaders in Education and Healthcare.

Sharing the group’s strategic plan, he mentioned that the group is planning to establish 10 – 15 more hospitals in the region in the next 5-7 years apart from 3-5 university campuses in other countries. He congratulated the hospital management on achieving JCI Accreditation and also for being rated as the best medical tourism destination in the region by a UK based publication recently.

“Our endeavor is to recognize the contributions made by doctors in their specialty, highlight their achievements and thank them for their support and encouragement extended to GMC Hospital. This is a token of our appreciation and we wish to conduct this ceremony every year.” said Akbar Moideen Thumbay.

The Chief Guest on the occasion Thumbay Moideen, Founder President Thumbay Group honored leading doctors from various hospitals and clinics with a special award of honor and recognition for their contributions to medicine and support extended to GMC Hospitals. The highlight of the evening was the honoring of four Nigerian Doctors, who have developed a strong association with GMC Hospitals in Medical Tourism.The event was attended by Prof. Gita Ashok Raj, Provost Gulf Medical University, apart from Doctors and officials from Ministry of Health. Dr Manvir Singh Walia Administrative Director of GMC Hospitals presented an overview of Thumbay Group Activities.

Dr Femi Ayoola, Dr Aminu Aliya Gani, Usman Musa and Ms. Florence Enyindah from Nigeria were honored on the occasion. Dr Kulsoom Masood, Dr Rana Hussain, Dr Marie Elias, Dr Mohamed El Sayed Eraki Ibrahium, Dr Archana Gupta, Dr Ibtesam Sheyaa Shaneen Al Jabawy, Dr Grace Sunny, Dr Meenakshi Kathirvel Pandian and Philippines Medical Center received the awards. Some of the GMC Hospital Ajman doctors were also honored with a special award for their exemplary service. Prof. Mawahib Abd Salman Al-Biate, Prof. Mahmoud Shamseldeen, Prof. Mahir Khalil Ibrahim, Dr Shanthi Therese Fernandez, Dr Salwa AbdEl Zaher Mabrouk Ibrahim, Dr Wajiha Ajmal, Dr Ignatius Edwin D' Souza, Dr Mohammed Khalid, Dr Mohammed Sobhy Badr Sobie and Dr Kasturi Mummigatti were the awardees.

The following topics were discussed during the seminar. Risk management in Minimally Invasive Surgery by Dr Prashanth Hegde, Specialist and Assistant Professor of Gynecology, GMC Hospital Ajman, Latest Trends in the Field of Endoscopy by Dr Sithara Balagopal, Specialist Gastroenterologist, Dept of Internal Medicine, Recent Updated Trends in Stroke Management by Dr Mohamad Hamdy Ibrahim, Specialist and Lecturer, GMC Hospital Ajman, Neuroimaging by Dr Vilas Kanikdaly, B Cells Transplantation for Diabetic Patients by Dr Nina Vicol, Specialist Dept of Surgery, GMC Hospital Ajman and Peri-Apical Surgery was discussed by Prof. Mohamed Said Hamed, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon and Dean College of Dentistry- GMU.

The seminar was accredited by the Ministry of Health for 6 CME hours.
