Now Trinamool's Anubrata under poll panel scanner

Kolkata, March 11 (IANS): Known for his hate speeches, Trinamool Congress' Birbhum district chief Anubrata Mandal has come under the scanner of the Election Commission for using alleged offensive words to incite his party workers against the opposition.

Comunist Party of India-Marxist state secretariat member Rabin Deb Tuesday went to the commission office to file the complaint against Mandal.

"This is unconstitutional. When the Model Code of Conduct is already in place, then how can such comments be made?" he said.

Mandal, who enjoys Banerjee's support, referred to the CPI-M as "rats" at a rally Sunday. "The rats are now hiding in their burrows, you should pit the burrows with mud and also use cyanide so that they don't come out," he said.

Deb's complaint came a day after the poll panel had received a complaint against his party legislator Anisur Rehman for his alleged derogatory comments about West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee during an election meeting in Birbhum.

Rehman also targeted her ministerial colleagues and actor Moon Moon Sen, who is contesting the Lok Sabha elections on a Trinamool ticket.

State chief electoral officer Sunil Gupta said the commission is looking into both matters, and has sought report from the district returning officer as per the official procedure.
