New Delhi, Oct 31: Air Chief Marshal A P Singh on Saturday bid farewell to the Indian Air Force (IAF) after completing 42 years of distinguished military service, bringing to a close his tenure as Chief of the Air Staff.
Earlier in the day, Air Chief Marshal Singh, who led the IAF during 'Operation Sindoor', paid tribute to fallen soldiers by laying a wreath at the National War Memorial in honour of those who made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty.

He was subsequently accorded a ceremonial Guard of Honour at the Parade Ground of the Air Force Station ahead of the formal handover of command to Air Chief Marshal Ashutosh Dixit, who assumed charge as the new Chief of the Air Staff on Saturday.
An accomplished fighter pilot and Experimental Test Pilot, Air Chief Marshal Singh made significant contributions to strengthening the IAF's operational capabilities, combat preparedness and modernisation.
In a statement, the IAF said his tenure as Chief of the Air Staff was marked by decisive leadership and an unwavering focus on operational readiness, particularly during Operation Sindoor, when the force demonstrated its combat capabilities, operational precision and resolve in pursuing national objectives.
His leadership further reinforced the IAF's ability to respond decisively across the entire spectrum of operations, the statement said.
Beyond operational leadership, the IAF said Air Chief Marshal Singh would also be remembered for his deep personal connection with air warriors across the organisation.
His interactions with personnel at the grassroots level reflected his firm belief that the strength of the Indian Air Force rests in its people, it added.
Whether engaging with personnel at the lowest level of the chain of command or interacting with young officers, airmen and cadets, he consistently emphasised professionalism, accountability, initiative and pride in service.
His ability to connect with young minds and inspire confidence reflected his commitment to nurturing the next generation of air warriors and leaders, the IAF said.
During his tenure, he also focused on building a technologically empowered and future-ready Air Force, with particular emphasis on indigenisation, innovation and the integration of emerging technologies.
His vision and guidance further strengthened the organisation's resolve to build a capable, credible and combat-ready force, the statement added.
The IAF also wished Air Chief Marshal Singh and his wife Sarita Singh the very best for the years ahead, stating that his legacy of leadership, operational resolve and enduring connection with air warriors would continue to inspire generations.
Earlier, President Droupadi Murmu and Defence Minister Rajnath Singh extended a warm farewell to the outgoing Air Chief, praising his distinguished service, exemplary leadership and invaluable contributions to the IAF and the nation.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh also acknowledged the significant role played by Air Chief Marshal Singh in the successful execution of Operation Sindoor.
