Mangalore: Body with head severed found at Tannir Bavi

Mangalore: Death of youth at Tannir Bavi - Family suspect foul play

Updated

Mangalore, Mar 23: Though the police claimed that the gruesome death of 22-year-old Rohit from Kerala was a result of an accident, his family members suspect that foul play was involved.

Rohit, hailing from Pathanamthitta, Kerala, was found dead with his head severed from the body at Tannir Bavi here on Sunday March 23.

Rohit

Though it was initially suspected to be a case of murder, the police later said that Rohit had been riding at a high speed and hit a tree.

However, his parents Dr Radhakrishnan and Dr Sridevi who are settled in Bahrain expressed suspicion that their son was murdered.

Speaking to daijiworld, Kiran, a relative said that Rohit owned no bike and always drove a car. On the night of Saturday March 22, he had dinner with some friends and took the Pulsar bike for a ride, without saying where he was going. Kiran further said that police have not given clear information on what actually took place.

Devdas, a cousin of the deceased, said that it seems like a foul play as he felt that an accident wouldn't have severed the head in such a way.

    (1) The said location and the position of the body parts and the bike does not justify the accident theory
    (2) If the head was served off by the impact on the tree branch, then the branch should be thin or sharp. This is not the case at the spot.
    (3) Even if the head is served off due to the impact, then it should be due to the heavy and high impact with the projectile speed (as per the theory bike was moving more than 120 km speed, and the victim was with a body weight of 115 Kg, then the head and body will be moving at a very high speed. (We can calculate the speed by engineering equations). Then the body and head will be continuing moving even after the impact. And after the head is being torn off it will move and roll like a ball and continue moving till come to a stop. By that time the head will be covered with sand and debris. But this is not case with the actual situation. Face/Head is clean and not with pinch of sand or dry leaves or debris on his face or hair. How it possible?
    (4) Look at the cuts on the neck. The cut is just below the chin? If the impact on the branch theory is correct, the head will torn off without a straight cut and the cut will start from the part of the neck with maximum strain which is just opposite side of the impact. Have we taken this into consideration while considering accident theory?
    (5) And the cut should be at the bottom part for the neck just above the thoracic region.
    (6) And how did the left side of the thoracic region is severely damaged? If there was a fatal knife wound at the left side between the shoulder blade and arm, and if it is crushed (with a heavy stone) to hide the knife mark, will the similar injuries shown on the body?

For such a severe injury wherein the head has been decapitated one would imagine a major bike accident, but here the bike seems in good condition. Doesn't look like an accident at all from the pictures here.

    One possibility,
A gang of thugs wanting to waylay the person must have strung a wire across to stop the bike on its return.
This must have severed his neck.
Then they must have untied the wire and fled !

Whether it is Murder or accident whatever happened will come to know only after the proper investigation, not from the first look scenes...

How come the police came to the conclusion of accident immediately? Is it to close the case soon n wash their hands? Or is it because he is from Kerala???

Proper investigation should be done n if it is proved murder, bring them to the court of law(not tortoise speed law)

I don't understand how the police can conclude in a hurry that it was an accident and he was in high speed and hit a tree, etc. etc!!Even if its so, it is quite difficult to believe one can get his head severed. Even if the road is straight, this cannot happen like this. Did police witness that he was in high speed and hit the tree? Where is that tree? I see only some small plants there in the photo. Was he not wearing proper clothing while riding? Something terribly wrong.

The issue should not be stunt but may be effected of bars keeping open till late hrs in night. This is very very common in these days. Lot of two wheelers seen in front of bars till late hrs in the night more so on saturday/sunday/holidays.One can see hundred of bikes parked in Urwastores in fromt 3 bars which is near to the area of Thannir bhavi. Road may be wide, straight, but sight remains not straint but upward straight!

This is the price everybody has to pay for prosperity, for a town to become city and then a Metro. Development goes hand in hand with an increase in crimes.
Why some always keep saying the crimes have increased in DK? Don't they know Mangalore has developed recently with Industries\IT and others wanting to open shop? Land prices skyrocketing and thereby bringing in the most dreaded land mafias (main reason in increase of crimes in city). Workers of all categories thronging the city who also contributes largely to increase of crimes in such situations.
Crime is part and parcel of Development.
One has to accept it and live with it, although the Government is trying it's best to curtail crimes as much as possible.
Please try your best to send one member of your family to join the police force who are very short handed right now. Hope you get the message.

You are right, the price for "so called" development which so far is only setting up of some high end malls and jewelry chains, which look too much (over supply) for a small city like Mangluru!! The sky rocketing artificial bump up in real estate prices is bound to bring all sorts of organized criminal activity in search of a fast and easy buck, and along with it all types of vice related activities due to money flow!!

Someone who is known to the person might have committed the crime, since the person was aware that this guy is a medical student and wanted to make sure that he was unable to save himself in anyway hence may have severed the head to be 100% sure that he is dead.

I do not think that the deceased is a person connected to humanity.Nowadays there are groups/persons more connected to gang wars, hafta vasuli, looting, chain snatchers, purders for pecuniary gains, contract killing, etc., Wait till the police commence/complete the enquiry proceedings to know the real facee of the person murdered. In Mangalore/DK humanity still exists and it will remain forever in spite of fast track growth of civilization / cities.

For sure image has been changed forever, but not in safe mode

Fishing in troubled waters Mr. Shetty?
If BJP\RSS stop their lawless activities our Karnataka State will be more or less safe.
When Police say it is an accidental death and not murder, you are interpreting it in a different manner.
I find there is a great change from the earlier 5 years rule by another Government.
Crimes have come down within a year of ouster (ejecting) of BJP from Karnataka. Things will improve further as the days pass by.
It was and will not be very easy for the present Government to undo the damage done during the earlier 5 Lawless years, where lawmakers themselves were involved in lawlessness.
