Three killed in Taliban attack in Afghanistan

Kabul, March 24 (IANS): Two policemen and a rebel were killed when Taliban militants ambushed a police patrol in southern Afghan province of Helmand, sources said Monday.

"Militants numbering nine to 10 ambushed a police patrol in Dorzu area of Garmsir district late Sunday night, leaving two policemen and one militant dead," the provincial government spokesman told Xinhua.

Six militants were captured following a counter-attack launched by police near the attack site, the official noted.

Helmand is notorious for poppy growing and militancy.

A local radio station was bombed Monday in Kama district of eastern Nangarhar province, a provincial security official told Xinhua, adding that the blast destroyed all apparatus of Radio Qalam FM and damaged the building but did not cause any human casualties.
