Bangalore, Jun 10: The long cherished dream is close to realization. The dream of lacs of people of the city as well as other parts of the state to have an international airport in the city seems to be certain now.  As per the latest reports, almost 70% work of the Bangalore International Airport will be completed by the end of this year.  The final evacuation work is already on progress in places which are subject to expansion as part of the international airport project.

“The newly redesigned airport will meet the opening date of April 2, 2008, with cost escalation of Rs 530 crore which will be met through loans,” said deputy chief minister B S Yediyurappa.

He was speaking to the reporters after a site review on Thursday June 8.

Bangalore International Airport Limited CEO Albert Brunner said that almost 23% work of the airport has been completed as per the schedule.  "We had originally planned to accommodate 3.5 million passengers a year, but this has now been redesigned to handle 11 million passengers. The full-fledged airport — with two runways — will be completed on time," he added.

It now seems that the airport work will complete in time though it has faced several barriers owing to several reasons, chief among them being the political ones.
