Bengaluru, Aug 9: Lokesh Kanagaraj's 'DC' witnessed a strong improvement at the box office on Saturday, recording a 52.3 per cent jump in India nett collections on its second day.
The film, which marks filmmaker Lokesh Kanagaraj's acting debut, earned Rs 6.70 crore nett in India on Saturday, compared with Rs 4.40 crore on its opening day, according to trade website Sacnilk.
With the Day 2 collection, the film's India nett total reached Rs 11.10 crore, while its India gross stood at Rs 12.74 crore. The film was screened across 3,549 shows on Saturday.
The Tamil version led the collections with Rs 4.55 crore nett and recorded an overall occupancy of 63.33 per cent. Night shows registered the highest occupancy at 80.38 per cent, followed by afternoon shows at 67.38 per cent, evening shows at 51.85 per cent and morning shows at 45.31 per cent.
The Telugu version contributed Rs 1.75 crore nett with an overall occupancy of 42.45 per cent, while the Hindi version added Rs 40 lakh with an overall occupancy of 12.84 per cent.
Tamil Nadu remained the biggest state contributor, recording Rs 2.40 crore gross on Day 2. Andhra Pradesh and Telangana together contributed Rs 2.25 crore, followed by Kerala with Rs 1.30 crore and Karnataka with Rs 1.15 crore. The rest of India contributed Rs 60 lakh, taking the combined state-wise gross to Rs 7.70 crore.
The film also maintained its momentum overseas, collecting Rs 3 crore gross on its second day. Its cumulative overseas gross collection has reached Rs 5.25 crore.
With an India gross of Rs 12.74 crore and overseas gross of Rs 5.25 crore, 'DC' has earned Rs 17.99 crore worldwide after two days.
The film has received positive reviews for its storytelling, performances and music. India Today's review described it as an arresting revenge thriller, praising Arun Matheswaran's direction and Anirudh's score.
In 'DC', Lokesh Kanagaraj plays Devadas, a man haunted by his past and pursued by the law. Wamiqa Gabbi plays Chandra, whose life changes after she crosses paths with him. The story follows the duo as they become caught in a dangerous world of love, betrayal and survival.
Directed by Arun Matheswaran, the film was released in theatres on August 7.
