Mangalore, Jun 13: The Indian Catholic Youth Movement (ICYM) will step into its 60 year will celebrate its diamond jubilee on July 2.

Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy is expected to inaugurate the year-long diamond jubilee celebrations, informed Mangalore bishop Fr Aloysius Paul D’Souza here on Monday. He also unveiled the ICYM diamond jubilee emblem at Bishop House.

ICYM was established in the year 1947 and has 150 church units and 15,000 members of Mangalore diocese, comprising Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Kasargod districts.

The movement has been imparting religious, social, political and educational training to youth through its motto of development through youth.

The launching of the jubilee celebration will be held on July 2, while grand function will also be organised in Jan 2007. The celebrations will conclude in June, the bishop informed.

A get-together for youth at the ICYM's different units, media education, awareness workshops for youth, spiritual camps, programmes for the development of Konkani language and culture will be organised as part of the diamond jubilee celebrations, he said.
