Mangalore, Jun 13: The beedi workers of DK have began an indefinite fast of beedi companies here urging fulfillment of their demands pertaining to minimum wages. The members of South Kanara Beedi Workers Federation, affiliated to CITU will resorted to mass picketing of labour department offices from June 15.

Their demands include payment of four dearness allowance (DA) installments since April 2003, six-day work a week and Rs 22 daily wages on ‘no work’ days, log books to all employees and supply of good tendu leaves for beedi rolling.
