100-year-old Saudi woman beggar leaves behind millions on her death


Jeddah, Apr 8 (7days): A woman in Saudi Arabia who spent most of her life as a beggar has left behind millions in cash and four properties after her death this week, according to reports in Saudi media.

The woman, who is believed by authorities to have been 100-years-old when she died, built up her wealth in the port city of Jeddah.

The Okaz newspaper said her estimated wealth was made up by SR5 million (equivalent to Dhs4.89million) plus four large buildings across the city.

In the reports a neighbour of the woman who had served her for many years before she died this week said: “She had millions in cash, more than SR1 million in gold coins and four buildings.

“Before her death, she asked me to inform authorities and hand all her money and properties to them. I have handed her wealth to a dignitary in our neighborhood in the presence of all other dignitaries. He made a pledge to take the necessary procedures to hand the wealth to the authorities shortly,” they added.
