Indian man convicted for attacking compatriot

Dubai, April 9 (IANS): An Indian national in UAE was Wednesday convicted and sentenced in absentia to six months in jail for a violent attack on a fellow Indian flatmate.

The Indian cook, identified only as MAS, knocked out the teeth of his flatmate, identified as MS, 54, in a vicious attack for objecting to watching a cricket game too loud on television in Dubai in April last year, The National reported.

The victim said the assailant raised the TV volume to maximum when he woke up in the morning.

"I objected that the voice was very loud and asked him to lower it and, as I walked back to my room, he came towards me and punched me on the face, breaking a tooth of mine," the victim said.

Thereafter, the 42-year-old cook kicked him repeatedly.

The man was taken to the hospital and police arrested the assailant from the spot.

The attacker was not present in court to enter a plea and was sentenced in absentia.
