Beltangady, Jun 17: In a ghastly road accident at Madivala-Chadavu near Dharmasthal here, 3 persons were killed and 3 were critically injured on Friday June 16 evening.

The deceased have been identified as jeep driver Dayanand of Kukkavu near Dharmasthal, Ashraf, an employee in a tourist hotel at Dharmasthal, Sunil Serrao, a resident of Arippadi near Ujire here. However, the identity of one more person who died while taking to the hospital is not yet established.

The injured have been identified as Venugopal, a tailor in Sunil Textiles at Ujire, Vasant, son of Cheluvayya Gowda of Chibidre-Periadka and Ammu Muttu Denna of Dharmasthala.

The accident took place after 6 in the evening when a government bus going to Mangalore from the Dharmasthala collided with a service jeep going to Dharmasthal from Ujire. Usually there used to be 15-20 people including the school children in the jeep.  But on Friday most of them had got down a couple of stops earlier.  So there were only 8 people in the jeep.

The impact of the accident was such that the roof of the jeep has entirely been damaged.  The deceased as well as the injured have sustained serious injuries on their heads.  The injured have been shifted to hospital in Mangalore.

The Beltangady police have registered a case in this regard.
