Mangalore, Jun 17: Polling for the legislative council's South-West teachers and graduates constituencies began on Saturday May 17 morning.  In all 32,352 voters will exercise their franchise in the elections.


The constituency consists of 6 districts, Udupi, Dakshina Kannada, Davangere, Chikamagalur, Shimoga and Kodagu.  A total of 6 candidates including BJP, Congress and JD (S) candidates are in fray for South-West graduates while 7 candidates are in fray for teachers constituency.

Candidates for teachers constituency:
Capt. Ganesh Karnik -BJP
K B Ramlingappa - Congress
P Vagesh - JD (S)
Ashwin Kumar, S S Omkarappa, M Shivlinge Gowda and P M Shanmukhayya - Independent

Candidates for Graduates Constituency:
D H Shankarmurthy - BJP
A N Mahesh - Congress
B Yesudas - JD (S)
V J Manohar - JD (U)
B Janameji Rao and Shobhodaya Koodlu - Indpendent


A total of 58 polling booths (12 in Dakshina Kannada) have been set up for graduates constituency and 56 booths (12 in DK) for teachers constituency.
