New Delhi, Jul 10: After two months of sorrow and trauma, it is celebration time for Rahul Mahajan, son of late Bharatiya Janta Party leader Pramod Mahajan, and his family as he gets engaged on Monday to his close friend Shweta Singh.

"We are very happy. But the engagement will be a low-key affair and only some close family members would be present for the ceremony," Poonam Mahajan Rao, younger sister of Rahul informed.

"Only 10-12 people from both sides would be present for the ceremony," said Rao.

Shweta, who lives in Gurgaon, has been a long-time friend of Rahul.

"Both of them have studied together, and known each other for long," said Rao.

Shweta and Rahul had completed their flying course together abroad. Shweta is a pilot with a leading domestic airline.

The two families have known each other for the last 12 years.

According to sources, it was Rahul's stay in Delhi during the last few months that brought the two closer than ever before.

Things have not been happy for the Mahajan family of late. The senior Mahajan was shot at by his own brother and died on May 3 after several days in hospital.

While the family was still grappling with the tragedy, a month later Rahul was hospitalised on June 2 in critical condition of suspected drug overdose.

Pramod Mahajan's aide Bibek Moitra died of the same reason. Police arrested Rahul on drug abuse charges after his release from Indraprastha Apollo Hospital.

Drug abuse charges were filed against Rahul and he was in jail for a few days till he was granted bail last month.

Rahul is to appear before a city court Monday afternoon in connection with the drug abuse.
