Mangalore, Jul 15: Even after spending lacs of rupees and the functioning of an exclusive Malaria Control Cell, the failure in controlling this menace has pointed out several lacunae in the Mangalore City Corporation’s plans.

With over 6,600 cases of malaria reported in just five months and 22 cases of filaria and couple of cases of chikungunya the MCC’s plans of controlling mosquito breeding has failed.

In June there where 978 cases of malaria reported in the MCC jurisdiction. The dismissal of three junior lab technicians has led to shortage of staff.

Buildings under construction have been the major breeding spots for mosquitoes

Falnir, Kodialbail, Bejai, Kankanady, Kadri and Car Street have been identified as high risk area.

Although there have been tests conducted on migrant labourers, construction labourers, the results have been low. This has pointed out the failure of the MCC in controlling Malaria.
