Mangalore Jul 15: The heavy rains of Thursday washed away a minor bridge located at Mekke between Jadkal and Mundur in Kundapur affecting around 10,000 people. Although a threat to the bridge was sighted few days back, no safety measures were taken up.
Houses were damaged and a small bridge was washed away in heavy rain in Udupi district on Friday. Most of the rivers are overflowing. Several houses have been inundated and several families have been relocated to the neighbouring school
In Udupi several houses were damaged including the houses in Tenka, Katbelthur Uppunda, Moodanidambur, Kodavoor and Basrur villages were reported damaged.
A part of the temple building of Narsimha Temple was also damaged at Ratadi.
Sea Erosion at Maravante
The sea erosion at Trasi-Marvante has intensified. The strong breeze and the waves have engulfed the boulders stacked on the shore. The protection wall built on the Pune model at a cost of Rs 2.71 crore has also been damaged.
The areas of Kulai Subhaschandra Nagar and Gokul Nagar in Suratkal were flooded. The Muchur road was inundated and families had to be relocated. The water in the river Nandini is nearing its danger mark in Soorinje. Traffic was stranded on the National Highway between Kulai and Panambur.
Mangalore taluk received 155.8 mm rain, while Bantwal recorded 143 mm, Bajpe 206.2 mm, Uppinangady 111.2 mm, Puttur 80.6 mm and Sullia 57.4 mm.
The houses of Alwyn D’Souza and Denis D’Souza of Kulur were damaged.
