Udupi, Jul 19: The Canara Bus Owners’ Association has proposed a marginal hike in bus fare following a hike in fuel prices. This was proposed during a RTA meeting here on Tuesday July 18.
Deputy commissioner and RTA chairman V Ponnuraj presided over the meeting in which association president Rajavarma Ballal proposed a hike of 13% in bus fare.
He also said that the association will hold a day-long bus strike if the roads in the Dakshina Kannada and Udupi district are not repaired by the end of this week.
However Consumer Forum convener K Damodar Aithal opposed any increase in the existing bus fare and said that price hike would put extra burden on the common people. He demanded the bus owners to issue tickets of bigger size and to write legibly on tickets. He also appealed the bus owners to mention the name and telephone number of the bus owner for the convenience of the commuters.
Nagarika Samiti member Nityananda Volakad asked RTA to resume KSRTC mini bus service to Mangalore which has been called off a few days ago. However, replying to this query RTO Omkareshwari said that the present problem does not come under the ambience of district RTA but under Mangalore RTA.
