Marandi re-elected deputy speaker of Odisha assembly

Bhubaneswar, June 16 (IANS): Senior Biju Janata Dal (BJD) leader Sananda Marandi was Monday re-elected the deputy speaker of the Odisha assembly, an official said.

The three-time legislator was elected unopposed by a voice vote after his name was proposed by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik as no other candidate was fielded by any other political party against him.

The BJD won 117 seats in the 147-member assembly in the 2014 polls held simultaneously with the Lok Sabha elections.

Marandi, 41, was re-elected from the Baripada constituency. He was also the deputy speaker of the state assembly from 2011-2014.
