Mangaluru, Nov 3: Advocates in Mangaluru abstained from work and staged a protest on Tuesday, demanding stronger security measures for members of the legal fraternity and effective implementation of the Advocates Protection Act.
The protest was held in response to the recent brutal murders of advocates Manjunath in Whitefield and Sriram in Annapoorneshwari Nagar, Bengaluru, as well as an attempt to murder advocate Venkatramana Sannaki from Gouribidanur.

The Advocates' Association, Bengaluru, in a press note dated November 2, stated that a decision to launch the protest was taken during its General Body Meeting held on October 29, condemning the lack of adequate security for advocates while discharging their professional duties.
As part of the statewide protest, the association had called upon all advocates' associations across Karnataka to abstain from work on November 3 and extend their support to the demand for strengthening the Advocates Protection Act to ensure the safety and security of lawyers.
Responding to the call, members of the Mangaluru Bar Association also abstained from work and staged a protest, expressing solidarity with the legal fraternity and condemning the attacks on advocates.
Mangaluru Bar Association president Jagadish Shenava, Mahesh Jogi, vice-president Praveen Adhyapady, Raghavendra Rao, Gautham BP, Asha, Sujith and Ravi Kumar were among those present.
