Jaipur, Jul 19: A 19-year-old girl in Rajasthan sued her parents for not letting her study and confining her to the house.
Determined to follow her dream for pursuing higher education, Rubina Khan dragged her folks to the court.
“I didn't want to marry till I became independent. I thought, I wanted to study and do something.
They made me drop a year and didn't allow me to take my exams so I was extremely disturbed that why am I not being allowed to study when all three of my brothers are being allowed to study,” Rubina says.
Just a week back, Rubina was under severe depression after realising that she was being forced to restrict herself to household chores and was being pushed into marriage.
It was then that she wrote to the police and the High Court.
“Immediately the SHO surveyed the area and they could find that there was something fishy, on that information they raided the house and they could liberate the girl,” Superintendent of Police, Jaipur, VK Singh says.
Rubina's parents got to know she had gone to the court only when the police intervened...
“I got to know when I went to the police station and they asked me if I had kept her in retention for two years, I said why would I, so they asked my daughter and she too said there was nothing like that,” Rubina's father, Sabir Khan says.
The police have registered a case against her parents for illegal retention. Her parents have now agreed to her demands and say she's free to study.
Rubina says she wants to work even harder to chase her dream of becoming an air hostess.
