Mangalore, Jul 22: The project of four-lane converting and concreting of city's road between the Mahaveer (old Pumpwell) Circle and Hampankatta was launched on Saturday, July 22 evening by Rajya Sabha member B Janardhan Poojary.
The project taken up jointly by the city corporation and KUIDFC-KUDCEMP was attended by a large number of corporators, mayor Ashraf and others. Conspicuous by their absence were MP D V Sadananda Gowda, minister B Nagaraj Shetty, MLA Yogish Bhat and others.
Deputy commissioner M Maheshwar Rao could not be present as he is on official, seconded duty at Manas Sarovar near the Himalayas.
It was being rumoured that BJP was planning a protest against taking up this project while there was a crying need for repairing other roads. But everything went on peacefully, as those who had planned to protest only preferred to stay away from the function.
