Mangalore, Jul 29:
The Regional All College Students Union has opposed the new policy pertaining to admissions into post-graduation courses.

According to the proposed policy, only 50 per cent of the seats will be available to the students who pursue graduation in the same university. In the remaining 50 per cent of the seats, 40 per cent will be reserved for students from other universities and 10 per cent seats for non-Karnataka students.

Briefing a press meet in the city on Friday, Union President Anuj Castelino said that the proposed policy is detrimental to the interests of the students who hail from humble background. Opposing the policy, Union will stage a demonstration before the office of Deputy Commissioner in the city on July 29, he informed.

Commenting on the Mangalore-Bangalore train service issue, he informed that Students Union in association with Mangalore Railway Development and Struggle Committee had protested last year demanding for the beginning of railway service at the earliest. This year Union will intensify the protest and strategy for the struggle will be formulated after discussing the issue with like minded organisations. "Plenary session of the union will be organised in the month of December this year. Veteran students leaders will be invited and issues related to education realm will be deliberated," he informed and lauded the Mangalore University for introducing semester system.
