Radio taxis come to Varanasi


Lucknow, July 14 (IANS): Radio taxis equipped with GPS/GPRS facility begin service in Varanasi town of Uttar Pradesh Monday, an official said.

The new facility, which will enable the user to track the movement of the cab, will be inaugurated by Transport Minister Durga Prasad Yadav.

In the first phase, the fleet will have 10 cabs and in case the service provider gets a good response, the number of taxis will be increased, the official said.

The service, so far available in the state capital, is being extended to Varanasi, the parliamentary constituency of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, to strengthen public transport and to ensure passengers' safety, an official told IANS.

Details of the driver, the service provider will be available to people who hire the cab service, which will run round the clock.
