About 2% of clergy in Catholic Church are ‘paedophiles’, reveals Pope Francis

Vatican, Jul 14 (Bhaskar News) : In a shocking revelation, Pope Fransic has said that around “2 percent of the clergy in the Catholic Church are paedophiles". It means over 8,000 out of 414,000 priests of the Church are sexually attracted to children.

Describing child abuse as "leprosy", which is rapidly infecting the Catholic Church, The Pope said the accused include "cardinals, bishops and priests," National Post reported quoting La Repubblica newspaper.

"Among the 2% who are paedophiles are priests, bishops and cardinals. Others, more numerous, know but keep quiet. They punish without giving the reason," Pope Francis has been quoted by the newspaper as saying.

He also reportedly vowed to "deal with the offenders with the severity".

But citing a Vatican spokesman, BBC reports that Pope Francis has been misquoted by the newspaper.

"There is often a studied ambiguity in Pope Francis' off-the-cuff statements. He wants to show a more compassionate attitude towards Church teaching than his predecessors, but this can sometimes cause consternation among his media advisers," says the BBC report.

Highly appreciate the transparency of Pope Francis. May be the cause for pedophiles I think, side effects of vow of chastity for priests. Married clergy is one of the solution.

    Jeevan jetu,
This problem is not new but as old as the hill ....900 years or more and everyone knew it ....BUT were scared to expose it for fear of the priest who made us feel he was in the place of God.and would be denied heaven if anyone spoke against a priest.
I dont think your comment carries any weight as previous popes have gone around the world asking forgiveness but no one has taken any action against these criminals...
Francis will orive hie metel if he does let us wait and see.
You talk of Sodom and Gomorrah in the bible not in the church.
Please explain what is the simple truth ?

Pope Francis (Kudos to this true messenger of God) has shed hypocrisy and is coming out of the true facts which were hidden behind the closet for long, and is good that the "bitter" truth is out before the faithful!!

Actually the % he has quoted would be very less than the actual, also what about homosexuality?

Incidentally, I am reminded of the otherwise "ferocious" Indian Naga Sadhus sect who completely renounce their lives and spend most of their lives in and around the crematorium-"Deeksha or Initiation of Nagababa involves a violent jerk in the private part, causing severed nerves which prohibits erection ability. This ritual is done usually in Kumbh mela or on special festival occasion or sometime on a fixed date"~WWW~!!

dear peddu , I understand your appreciating view of the pope. admire it. but in next sentence you are stereotyping all other religions. this is not acceptable. you have no business to stereotype other religions. what are you trying to prove or point? If that is the case why earlier popes were silent or were denying this truth

    Very sad news!
But I honour Pope Francis for he has revealed the truth, even if it is belonging to own hierarchy.
Correction is possible only if the truth is revealed and genuine confession is made.
Confession is 1000 times better than suppressing the truth.
Correction is VERY DIFFICULT specially within the family.
May almighty God bless and grant strength to Pope Francis to cleanse the Church.

Strange and surprising and yet true fact.
They are all human first, they didn't descend from sky.
As Mr. Bandarkar pointed out, the food regimen is the most culprit in every one of us, with all the chemicals and hormones that have been used to get bountiful crops, which could not have catered for the earth's population if that wasn't done so, since the 1960s.

All over we are cultivating hybrid seeds which is the root cause of the problems either health-wise or nature-wise.

Just reflect on ourselves, how many of us are faithful to our own spouses and how many of us have deviant cravings.

    Mon, Jul 14 2014

Mr. Bhandarkar is not referring to hybrid crops, but the Rajasic and Thamasic food which the preaching community should avoid.

They are not ordinary human beings like us, as they have taken religious oath to guide the man kind in righteous path.

Jesus Christ taught simple living. But, those who are preaching his ideals are leading luxurious life.

There are instances where they are owning petrol bunks and doing commercial activities.

One should not defend these activities of preaching community drawing parallel with ordinary citizens.

If indeed Pope Francis has said it
then 'There is something terribly wrong with the diet'.
This often is the case with all
God men, connected to the service of God, Preachers, Seekers, Discourse Givers and their ilk.
there's a 'prescribed diet' for this lot.Danger lurks at close quarters if not followed to the T.
    It is true folks.
