Mangalore, Aug 7: MP D V Sadanand Gowda demanded the union government to establish a full-fledged passport office in the city at the earliest to cater the needs of the thousands of locals.
Speaking in the Lok Sabha he said that right now the city has only an office where passport applications are received but passport office is in Bangalore. "However, passport applicants and those who fly abroad for work or for Hajj pilgrimage are more from the coastal districts. Since there is no full-fledged passport office here, it takes long time for the applicants to get their passport done," he said.
He further said that efforts are going on to upgrade the Bajpe airport to international standards. There are a lot of positive moves in this regard and international flights expected to land at Bajpe airport shortly. “In this regard it is much better to have a zonal passport office in the city with regard shorten the immigration and other processes. Moreover, a zonal passport office would reduce half the pressure and workload of the Bangalore passport office," he opined.
