Lucknow woman's murder case referred to CBI

Lucknow, July 28 (IANS): The Uttar Pradesh government Monday recommended that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) be referred the Mohanlalganj murder case in which a woman was found murdered 10 days back on the outskirts of the state capital.

Though the police claimed to have cracked the case and arrested a private security guard, neither the family nor opposition parties were satisfied with the investigation. The family then demanded a CBI probe into the matter.

The family had begun a sit-in in the city, demanding the case be handed over to the CBI.

Chinks in the government theory started surfacing after the autopsy report showed two kidneys were intact while the 32-year-old victim had donated one of her kidneys to her husband, now deceased, three years back.

Police also ruled out any rape and claimed the crime was committed by a single man. This theory was questioned in the forensic report which also inferred rape and involvement of more than one person in the ghastly crime.

The Bharatiya Janata Party and other parties have called the decision to hand the case to the CBI right but a delayed one.
