Man shot dead by cousin over 'girlfriend'


Gurgaon, Sep 8 (IANS): A 28-year-old man was shot dead by his cousin for having a relationship with a woman both of them called their 'girlfriend', police said Monday.

Pradeep Kumar alias Filmy was shot dead Sunday night in Gurgaon Gaon area by his 27-year-old cousin Lalit at a party held on the occasion of the birth of a child.

Harlu, a resident of Gurgaon Gaon, is a co-accused in the murder.

"The two people were married and had criminal records to their names. They had a relationship with a woman whom both called their girlfriend. They had warned each other to stay away from his 'girlfriend'," police officer Tejveer Singh told IANS.

The two - Pradeep and Lalit - had fought over the issue earlier too.

They had an altercation Sunday night and Lalit shot Pradeep Kumar with a locally-made pistol.

Pradeep had 14 cases of theft, chain snatching and brawls registered in his name in Gurgaon and the National Capital Region (NCR). He was declared a "bad character" by Gurgaon police.

Lalit has four cases of murder and attempt to murder registered in his name.

Both were out of jail on bail.

Pradeep received three gun shots and died during medical treatment.

Both the accused, Lalit and Harlu, were yet to be arrested.
