Mangalore, Sep 12: The Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) health officers on Friday September 12 raided scrap shops located in the public area at Bibi Alabi Road, Bunder, Mangalore. Shops which were running illegally without licence were demolished.

Speaking to daijiworld MCC health officer Dr Manjayya Shetty said that scrap shops had been built in the public area and their owners did not possess licence either. He also assured that the shops would not be seen again as the MCC was strict against such illegal business operators in the city.

The department in the coming days would carry out similar drive to make Mangalore a healthy city, he added.

"We are going to build public toilets in these areas and we will see to it that the shops are not opened again in the same spot. These scrap shops were a nuisance as the shop owners were throwing scrap materials all over the place which was creating problems to the locals," he said.

Some of the shop owners brought their own vehicles and took all their belongings with them and cleared the area. There were a few spare parts of cars, which the MCC confiscated.

The MCC team headed by senior health inspector Bharat Kumar under the direction of health officer Yashwanth and others were part of the raid operation.

These shops were sheer nuisense to all the people. The full area should be cleaned and cleared or better traffic pathways. These shops have made their own encroachment without any papers. Time to clean these intruders and make m'lore a cleaner city.

Right, it is time for MCC and Govt to reclaim what belongs to them and give it to their due owners, i.e. General Public.
Govt. agencies are trustees of public, are suppose to take due care and protect their property. They shouldn't allow someone to encroach/steal their property, it is negligence. Ignorance also is negligence. This step is in right direction.

Encroachment of public property is big menace to Municipalities.
They are concerned and responsible to give better amenities to the general public.
Lot of Govt land adjoining to Roads, foot paths and grounds have been encroached by hawkers and shop keepers.
Motorists and general public are put to lot of inconvenience and are loosing open space and public amenities.
Some bad elements in Govt offices are giving them tacit support, at the cost of general public inconvenience.
Govt may provide alternative places for legitimate shops, but not at the cost of public amenities.
