DLF Foundations starts medical camps in Jammu and Kashmir

New Delhi, Sep 16 (IANS): After dispatching relief material, medical staff and medicines to flood-ravaged Jammu and Kashmir, DLF Foundation Tuesday said it has started medical camps in the state as the threat of epidemic looms large.

"We have dispatched a medical team along with a team from DLF Foundation to assist in relief work. These medical camps will be organised by DLF Foundation in the affected areas of J&K," the organisation's chief executive Lt. Gen. (Retd) Rajender Singh said.

Earlier, the foundation had contacted the Indian Air Force and the Indian Army and requested them to help in transporting relief material like food, water, blankets, life saving medicines and hygiene kits to the affected families.

"The Indian Air Force agreed to provide an aircraft to airlift the material. More than 12 tonnes of food and relief material has been airlifted to flood affected areas of the valley by a special aircraft from Delhi airport on Sep 12 and 15," the foundation said.

"Like the first consignment sent Friday, the second with six tonnes of rice was sent to Srinagar Monday with supplies like biscuits, bread, packaged water, milk powder, blanket, torches and hygiene kits, among others," said Gayatri Paul, director.
