Mangalore: Weekend special work successful - 23,000 files cleared

Daijiworld Media Network - Mangalore (RJP)

Mangalore, Sep 22: A special initiative to clear files on the weekend has paid off. The government workers who worked extra on the weekend have managed to clear 23,000 files in the district.

Following the directive by the deputy commissioner AB Ibrahim to government workers in the district to clear around one lakh pending files, so far they have managed to clear about 20% of the files in two days time. And one third of the files were cleared at the revenue department headed by the DC himself. A majority of these files are relating to the pension applications.

The main inspiration for the initiative was a successful drive launched by the chief secretary Kaushik Mukherjee at the Vidhana Soudha recently. The district in-charge minister had asked the officials in the district to emulate the file disposal drive at the Vidhana Soudha.

Revenue department with 10,890 files and Mangalore City Corporation with 3,052 files were among the top in disposal of files where 23000 odd files were cleared.

A statement from city corporation said that 1903 and 1149 files were disposed on Saturday and Sunday respectively with being only 647 files pending now.

As per the optimism expressed by the DC, similar arrangement on a specific day every month in the future will be made if the district in charge minister gets the proposal passed in the cabinet. It should be remembered that a Saturdays meant for exclusively for file disposals existed in the past.

Though the public were informed that the offices would remain open on Saturday and Sunday, the response from the public was lukewarm.

Our present Dy. Commissioner Mr. Ibrabim has done a good job in clearing about 23,000 pending files. I was really shocked to know that more than one lakh files are pending for clearance. The files pending at present perhaps pertains to previous DC's period for which we cant blame Mr.Ibrahim. According to the report most of the files cleared now pertains to pension applications. Acoording to public many cases pertaining to RTC and Land Tribunal cases are pending for quite a long long time. These cases are unnecessarily dragged for years together making the public sick to visit AC's office often. The DC may please look into such files thoroughly and try to solve the problems of public as they are suffering too much without getting RTC's pending in Tribunal. Those offials who are concerned for such unwanted delay should be punished.

Mr Ibrahim, don't pat your back on clearing 23,000 files. First, find who is responsible for keeping so many files pending and fix responsibility, even punishment, to these laggards. Did they not get salaries and allowances? So what is the point in doing something which should have been done as a matter of routine without causing problems for the citizens.

This shows government staffs are having better performance when they are paid overtime for working on week ends. It is really surprise that filles pending from several years got 20% of files got cleared in 2days. This is possible only when files are closed without proper verification or intentional files are dumped without working on time. Any way better to have re-verification.

ALWYN i agree if all staff comes on time and works 9.00 to 5.00 sincerely no files would be pending. This weekend was really a stunt for publicity.
When a file/Complaint is given to the department, we have to beg/ plead & finally bribe to complete the work.
let DC set the time limit for files. If the file is not completed within the time limit. system to generate message to the higher authority.Public should be able to accesses trough the web site.

What about POLICE DEPARTMENT, When they will clear the files.

Why this fake smile on the face of Ibrahim?

Why people praising these Kaam Chors for keeping the files pending in the first place, with so much dust settled on it, hoping some one will bribe them to clear them...??

These Kam Chors have forgotten that "Government work is God's work" and keep themselves busy doing real estate dhandha and other illegal actives at their work premises.

Biometric systems and CCTV monitors to watch and record all illegal activities must be implemented in all govt. offices, police stations and right above the heads of our chor ministers, MPs, MLAs, health officials etc.

I congratulate Mr. Ibrahim on his imitative in goading Government employees to clear pending files.

Sleeping over pending work is common but not to the extent of keeping papers pending for indefinite periods.

I have known Mr. Ibrahim for a while and he is an inspiration. He means what he says and says what he means. He is a trend setter and also role model to the employees.

His directive will go a long way in helping the people of Mangalore in getting their cases cleared without much the delay which was predominant earlier.

Kudos to you Mr. Ibrahim. I repeat that you are INDEED AN INSPIRATION.

I guess weekday’s govt officers have regular internal meetings, MLA, MP or senior official visits & public visits, so they could not concentrate full time work. This causes delay of work. We have to see also other side too.

I had tried to visit MCC on Saturday to enquire about reversal of my construction water advance of Rs 20000/, but there was a notice hung right on the grilled gate saying there is no entry to the public as files clearing is on.
Now how can they say that the resposne from public is lukewarm.
