Mangaluru, Dec 3: "A park and a memorial will soon be constructed for the victims of the Air India flight which crashed at Mangalore Airport in May 2010. They will come up near the Kulur bridge leading to Tannirbavi," said A B Ibrahim, deputy commissioner.

He was addressing a meeting held in the presence of Mangalore International Airport (MIA) director J T Radhakrishna, former MIA director M R Vasudev, New Mangalore Port Trust(NMPT) officials, Uday N Kumar, ACP (traffic) on Wednesday December 3 at DC's office here.

Ibrahim said that the park will be developed on 43 cents of land by the state administration, NMPT, Air India, and Airports Authority, and Mangalore City Corporation will look after its maintenance.

"The memorial will be designed like a Boeing aircraft and built in the middle of the park, and the victims' names will be embossed on it." he said

He also directed the officials to finalise the proposal for the park within the next 5-6 months so that there will not be any further delay in realizing the project.

"Relatives of victims rejected the idea of building the memorial near the Mangalore International Airport as they said that they do not want to be reminded of the bad memories once again," he added.

Air India official Sudhir Bhat suggested that a useful public museum could be established as part of the memorial, but the DC replied that there is no availability of land.

Regarding the MIA runway extension, MIA director Radhakrishna said that currently the runway is 8,000 ft long and it has to be extended up to 11,500 ft. He also said that Rs 120 crore has been estimated for the proposed project for the transportation of domestic cargo.

I agree with AI Official Sudhir Bhat, do something useful to society. Have a Museum where people will benefit. What is in a park? Also MCC will maintain it? I hope so, coz roads in Mangalore in few areas are still so bad.
With due respect to sentiments of victims' family members, why this park idea?
Is it also possible to start an Orphanage like Nelson has written or build a small additional block in a school where it is much required and name it as " Air India Wing " !! At least few poor students will benefit from this.
Who is going to benefit from this idea of a park is a big question?!!

In the names of the victims spend the earmarked money to have better aircrafts plying to and from the gulf countries. I am sure Air India will never spend this money on the victims' families.

The aircraft presently plying to and from the gulf are mediocre and in pathethic condition there have been recent instances where Air India's aircrafts had to be towed back from the runways as they experienced technical failures just prior to takeoff.

The question is who asked for it. DC clearly said "Relatives of victims rejected the idea as they do not want to be reminded of the bad memories once again,". So , many stupid factors also like 43 cents too small, it's no where close to airport, nobody will come specifically to Kulur to have a look on this memorial. So, who asked for it. I trust only those evil minds who always target such projects to fill their pockets must have initiated this idea and project. Or else I am iterating to DC, there are so many problems to address. Instead of that why the hell we are discussing about this memorial which is of nobody's interest...

If you all need to respect the innocent victims and relative of the family members, then write down all victims name in WHITE MARBLE and keep in side the airport permanent.
No one will get chance to misuse public money form the present project or there any maintenance cost. This will be a respect to innocents SOUL and all passenger will offer their condolence and every minute some one will offer their prayer to all.
There is other better option than this.

Let the DC first instruct the MCC Commissioner about laying of drainage lines in the Kulshekar / Maroli / Bikkarnakatte / Nantoor area. All apartment buildings ( and a big new mall under construction ) in this area only have leach pits which overflows regularly. It is worse during the monsoon season. Wells in this area are all contaminated and rendered useless. The MCC blames the National Highway Dept and vise versa. In turn the people of the area are suffering.

    Sir Ibrahim,

Does this make sense? Plane Crash in one corner , memorial in another corner does not make sense. End of the day somebody as made some money in the name of park memorial and pocketed a handful . First Compensate the families who have lost their dear ones. May be some of them who have died might have been the only person who is the breadwinner of the family .Have you made any effort for the Victims family to get at least 50% of Compensation. Building a park will not even pull the visitors as its a different location and not the location where the incident took place . End of the day you will only see crows , dogs ,cats and cows stretching their legs and blessing the area with pings.Take my word .This is a waste of public money .Not sure who sanctioned this.

first let them pay full compensation to all who died in the crash and may be jobs to their family members. bcos the bread earner of the family may be not there.
