Friends again: BJP-Shiv Sena will run Maharashtra govt together; Sena to get 12 ministers

Mumbai, Dec 4 (Agencies) : Seventy days after they parted ways, the BJP and the Shiv Sena have once again come together and formed an alliance to share power in Maharashtra.

Addressing a press conference, Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced that Shiv Sena will join his ministry. Fadnavis said there would be 12 ministers – 5 Cabinet ministers and 7 minister of state - from the Shiv Sena in the Cabinet. Around 10 BJP MLAs will also be inducted into the ministry, he added.

Importantly, Fadnavis said that there would no Deputy CM in the state.

The oath-taking ceremony will be held at Vidhan Bhawan premises at 4 pm tomorrow. Presently, there are eight Cabinet and two ministers of state in the Fadnavis ministry sworn-in on October 31.

“I called Uddhav Thackerayji and said that talks for an alliance must be held, he was also positive about it,” the CM said.

“We have been together for 25 years...this government needs to work for five years,” the CM said, adding that both the parties have fixed the modalities and will run the government together.

Fadnavis said that for some reasons the long time partners could not fight elections jointly but the verdict of the people was in favour of the BJP and the Shiv Sena and against the Congress and the NCP.

He added that the alliance will be taken forward and the parties will contest local body elections in coalition.

Opportunist politician Sharad Pawar got a sound slap from the BJP. There was no need to show his desperation for power with such urgency. Atleast now he should go back to his roots.

if you ask me this was not a wise step!.... It should have been minority govt and they could have kept good cop/bad cop going! cos, next election cld have picked SS vs BJP...! which is good for maharastra....!! .. now they have to give LoP to congress... however, Sharad Pawar may split congress eventually.. though, insecurity in Sena MLA was eveident, since they agreed for a bargain and climebed down from their original demand!

Nothing unexpected but shameful.Have lost whatever respect i had for dynamic devendra. Was sick of hearing cajoling chuvvha sena by devendra these days. Cannot BJP run the govt alone in MH when it is in centre also ss had already mocked BJP as afzal khan army etc before elections and wanted to be oppn?

At least they left their ego behind and joined the majority. Better sense prevailed. Otherwise there would have been another election and a waste of money.

All is well that ends well! So happy about this news! Shiv Sena is the most natural ally of BJP!

Now with a 55% combined vote share together, they should deliver strong able leadership & development to Maharashtra, something that was denied to the state in the last 15 years of misrule by Cong-NCP combine!
