Boy's mother too had died in the same hospital 6 months ago

Beltangady, Dec 11: Hundreds of protestors gathered outside Fr L M Pinto Health Centre, Badyar, commonly known as Badyar hospital here on the night of Thursday December 11, after a 15-year-old boy who was admitted there suddenly died, allegedly due to medical negligence.

Kiran (15), son of Srinivas Poojary and the late Leelavati from Ujire, was admitted to the hospital on Saturday December 6 for appendicitis. He underwent surgery, but on Thursday morning his condition suddenly deteriorated.

The doctors at Badyar hospital asked the family to shift him to a hospital in Mangaluru, but by then his condition had worsened and he could not be saved.

Family sources said that as per the doctors who examined him in the hospital in Mangaluru, Kiran had been given a medicine that had strong reaction on him. As a result, his nervous system was affected, it is learnt.

Incidentally, his mother Leelavati too had been admitted to the same Badyar hospital about 6 months ago, and she too had a sudden death in the hospital, sources said.

A case has been filed in Beltangady police station in this regard.

As the news spread, a huge protest was organized, and around 500 people led by Praja Prabhutva Vedike chief Mahesh Shetty Thimarody gathered in front of the hospital and protested.

The protestors alleged that several such incidents of medical negligence had taken place in the Badyar hospital, but the local administration has failed to take any action. They demanded the immediate resignation and arrest of the doctor responsible for Kiran's death.

Speaking to daijiworld, Beltangady MLA Vasanth Bangera, who is in Belagavi for the ongoing winter session of the Legislative Assembly, said that he would order a probe into the case by Saturday December 13.

When asked why no action was taken despite allegations of medical negligence in the past at the same hospital, he replied, "I have come to know for sure that doctor's negligence led to death in this case. Hence, action will be taken."

ACCORDING TO ME DR.DENZIL IS GREAT SERVICE PERSON.ASLO NUNS AND STAFF OF THE HOSPITAL GREATER IN DEDICATED SERVICE.IN MANY CASES PEOPLE COME TO THE HOSPITAL IN LAST SERIOUS CONDITION.IF HE IS CURED IT IS NOT COMES IN LIGHT.IF WHATEVER HAPPENED IT COMES ON HOSPITAL.HERE IT IS ALLEGED THAT MOTHER OCCURRED DEATH BY DOCTORS MISTAKE.WHY BECAUSE THE BOY WAS BROUGHT TO THE SAME HOSPITAL?ANY ONE MAY SEE THAT MORNING TO EVENING HOSPITAL IS HEAVY RUSH TO CARE THE PATIENTS.DR.DENZILS SMILING WORDS MORE PLEASURE THAN MEDICINE TO THE PATIENTS.I CALL EVERYBODY TO THINK MEANINGFULLY BEFORE PROTEST AGAINST DOCTOR.IF IT IS CONTINUED SO ONE DAY DOCTORS WILL NOT AGREE TO GIVE TREATMENT IF PATIENT IS IN SERIOUS CONDITION.ALSO MEANINGLESS PROTEST DISCOURAGE THE HOSPITAL TO RENDER THE SERVICE TO THE NEEDY PEOPLE.

These days Medicine has become a kind of business. No respect for human life only money is counted. Doctors must be very careful when treating patients.

Acute appendicitis is an emergent condition which requires immediate appendectomy before it bursts and creates a life threatening situation, the operation as any others carries certain risks!!

How can somebody just on some verbal opinion of docs from another hospital stage such an agitation against any hospital only if they have solid evidence from a postmortem report could they have taken action against the wronged hospital!!

Nowadays, public has no patience and react ferociously without ascertaining the truth just by word of mouth inflammatory publicity!!

    May the departed soul RIP!!!

In our community we have 'Madya jagga' -'Madya Bhandary', two blokes who help a household till the last rites are over in case of a death. This a noble deed they do without of course no expectations.
    Very very noble souls.
Now sadly to say in some cases of 'suspect deaths' there are some who come and 'agitate' and seek 'mileage' in the process!really what has the world come to!Lighting their own beedies in other's funeral pyre!

So Sad, May soul of Kiran rest in peace!
Medical Hospital and fraternity's purpose of existence itself is to save lives.
Sadly nowadays, many people take many important things lightly. Including their own health care.
That's why, we see many accidents also. Seriousness and commitment is reducing.
Due to eroded values in society, Hospital managements also finds very difficult to get good, committed, understanding people.
But then again Hospitals are required but good, caring one! Govt hospitals run with Tax payers money should also be improved, made accountable, and must compete with private Hospitals.

Whenever a hospital suggests surgery to the patient, they now get their consent signed, letting them know the chances of failure in a ratio of 90:10. Only if the party agrees they go through the surgery.
Here Thimarody surfaces as in Soujanya case only to get fame or name or anything else only he can reveal.
Let there be a postmortem & instead of agitating & slamming any hospital for the death of patient as if they know better than doctors about medicine or surgery is a foolish act of mob mentality.
If in the previous case it was negligence on the part of hospital, then why they again approached the same hospital?
Blaming others is easy to cover up their late entry to any hospital in an emergency situation & the delay in approaching expert care causes more death than negligence as these people claim about hospitals.

if it is an with reaction to a drug given with a good intention then no negligence can be alleged. provided all steps were taken to re verse the reaction.

1st of all check if there was a Cause of the Child to Die due to Und underlying Medical Condition, This can happen because Acute Appendicitis is an Emergency condition and Only Basic Checks are done before Surgery. Perhaps some Genetic Predisposition
    If all was well,

Better to put a LEGAL Petition for Hospital Documents, It is Your right as a Patient /Party to ask for a Copy of the Hospital Documents, this can be given after notification to the Medical Records Department(MRD) of the Hospital.
This document(Need not be Original but at least Originals Copy ha to be attested by the Administrator at the Hospital, with Seal of MRD and Administrator.
A legal process can be started following the same.
I don't know any Medical Negligence Doctors in Mangalore, But I think you will find them in Bangalore and Dr. MC. Gupta in Delhi, is very good source of Contact.

    Dear Pinto,
True it is very sad that, Young Lad Kiran and 6 months ago his mother also died in the Hospital.
However, unless proven, how seriousness patient was while admitting, we can't say that it medical negligence or not.
People too, fail to take, due care of themselves in time.
Though his mother died, boy's Father bought the son to the same hospital.
But true and impartial investigation may be carried out to clear everything.

One thing is very certain. The doctor who operated is a qualified gynecologist only. He is not entitled to conduct any other surgeries including appendicectomy. This is enough prima facie evidence for medical negligence and malpractice

@ Pinto /Doha,dear Pinto dont give your comments without knowing exacctly what has happend.we both you and I dont know in which stage Boy was brought, what he was given.when a Appendix burstout ,or acute should be treated or operated when the condition of Person allows,or a antibitic is given .Appendix is sometime not diagnosed at right time.It can mistakenly thought sometime as plain stomach ach and treat with hotwater bag at home which will end in catastroph.bursts .Thatswhy we dont know when the Boy was brought and what is happend God only knows.when a Patient dies it is doctors /Hospitals fault they say..and public starts to protest.Sure it is a tragody, mother and son died in same Hospital. There are cases when doctors do mistake and neglect and Patient dies.Let us wait and see what exactly happened.Let us pray for his Soul .
