NCP MLA Awhad's suspension revoked

Nagpur, Dec 16 (PTI): The Maharashtra Legislative Assembly today revoked the suspension of NCP MLA Jitendra Awhad, three days after he was suspended for the rest of the Nagpur Session.

Awhad was suspended on December 12 for the rest of the winter session after he allegedly made derogatory remarks against Housing and Labour Minister Prakash Mehta when the latter objected to the commotion created in the House on the issue of observing Nathuram Godse's birth anniversary as 'Shaurya Diwas' on November 15 in Maharashtra.

However, Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Girish Bapat today informed the House that a request came from the Opposition leaders and an assurance was given that the NCP legislator would not repeat such a mistake.

Thereafter, Bapat tabled the resolution seeking a revocation of the suspension of the legislator, which was then passed by the House.
