Mumbai: Kala Ghoda, locals fail to resolve dispute

Mumbai, Dec 23 (PTI): The organisers of the annual Kala Ghoda cultural festival and residents of the south Mumbai area, where it is held, today told the Bombay High Court that they could not find any amicable solution to their dispute and the court itself may resolve it.

Local residents have filed a petition opposing the festival, citing problems such as traffic congestion, piling up of garbage, etc. Last week, the court had asked both the parties to resolve the issue amicably.

The festival organisers today also told the division bench headed by Justice V M Kanade that they were ready to reduce the number of stalls from 110 to 79 and make proper security arrangements.

The court was also informed that Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Vastu Sangrahalaya (museum), located in the vicinity, was ready to give a part of its premises for the stalls.

The court today directed the representatives of Mumbai police, Mumbai fire Brigade and Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai to remain present on Tuesday for the next hearing.
