Kasargod, Dec 29: The Manjeshwar police have arrested a youth in connection with the death of the newborn who was thrown into a rivulet allegedly by her grandmother a couple of days ago.

So far, Suresh (25), the alleged biological father of the newborn, and Sita (40), the maternal grandmother, have been arrested in the case. Both Suresh and Sita are from Telangala.

Suresh and Sita

It is said that the relationship between Sita's 16-year-old daughter who bore the child and Suresh was illegitimate.

The newborn was tossed into a rivulet at Uppala late night on Friday December 26 allegedly by Sita. Some people who saw the incident intercepted the mother and grandmother of child and alerted the police. The police first arrested Sita on Saturday December 27. The police also came to know about the role of Suresh in the case.

The body of the child was recovered from the rivulet.

The child was born in Kumble hospital four days before it was discarded. The hospital authorities had told the mother and grandmother of the child to register a police complaint the next day as the mother was a minor.

But they hurriedly got discharged from the hospital to come to Uppala by auto. Then they took another auto to come to Patwadi and tossed the baby into the rivulet, it is learnt.

The police have now arrested Suresh and booked him under POCSO Act. Further investigations are on.

Such an evil. The Government should have NGO's permitted to take unwanted babies and give them for adoption. So many couples want children and are childless. At White Doves three unwed young mothers had their babies and later got married. Whenthey were thrown out of their homes we were fortunate to come across these cases and save lives which would otherwise be snuffed off. Every child is a gift of God.

This is nothing less than a murder. The accused person if guilty should be severely punished.

Hope the hand of law comes down heavily on the murderer.

If girl is been married to accused , then POSCO should be challenged by crpc 13 ( which keeps age of consent for married girl as 15 ). I feel man is not at fault here , but utterly inhuman act of Grandmother for tossing baby into rivulet should attract max punishment.

Furthermore Suresh should have took care of infant and once marries girl , courts will quash him all charges , looking at infants future. But allas Fate was different. God bless its soul.
