'PK' row: Maharashtra CM says no probe; film shows to continue

Mumbai, Jan 1 (PTI): Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis today ruled out any probe into Aamir Khan starrer 'PK', a day after MoS for Home ordered an inquiry into the film's "content" amidst raging protests, and promised adequate protection for its smooth screening.

"There will be no inquiry. Shows of PK will continue all over Maharashtra and we will provide necessary protection to ensure smooth screening of the film," he told reporters.

Amid protests by right-wing groups demanding a ban on the movie, which takes a swipe at Hindu gods, godmen and superstition, Maharashtra's Minister of State for Home Ram Shinde had said yesterday that he had asked police to probe contents of the film.

"Shows of PK won't be stopped. PK will continue to be screened in Maharashtra," Fadnavis said following reports that some theatres had cancelled the shows under threat from right wing groups like Bajrang Dal and Vishwa Hindu Parishad.

With protests spreading to several states, the film's director Rajkumar Hirani had said yesterday he had no intention to hurt anyone's sentiments and maintained that the film upholds the true spirit of religion while condemning "only the abuse" of it.

"I'm deeply saddened and concerned about the protests by some groups against our film 'PK'. On behalf of the entire team of 'PK', I would like to clarify that we respect all religions and faiths," the 52-year-old celebrated film director had said, in a statement.

Shinde had asked IG (Law and Order) Deven Bharti to look into objectionable scenes, if any, in the film and promised "necessary" action if any "wrong" was found.

"The Censor board may have found the film fit to be released and hence they cleared it from their end. But after the release some organisations have objected to some parts of the film," Shinde had said, adding the government will "step in" if the issue snowballed into a major law and order problem.

The film has the rightwing Hindu groups up in arms, staging protests that have turned violent in some places including BJP-ruled Gujarat where theatres have been vandalised. Protests have also taken place in several states including Madhya Pradesh, Assam, Odisha, Haryana and Delhi, besides Hyderabad and Mumbai.

Leela Samson, chairperson of the Central Board of Film Certification, has already made it clear that the board will not remove any scenes from the film.

Aamir has also trashed accusations of him having "insulted" the Hindu religion because he was a Muslim, saying, "We respect all religions. All my Hindu friends have seen the film and they have not felt the same".

Clarifications from Hirani and Aamir Khan have, however, cut no ice with the agitators.

Sanghis have a wild excuse when someone criticise them...Instead of countering them they say make a film on muslims..yaar...when anti muslim film was made we didn't blow the trumpet and say make a film on hindus......We criticised the film and protested against it not the other community...At that time sanghis supported such film....
Now they are taking their own medicine...
This shows their inherent inability to digest criticism like any other religion now dont spread myth like only ours is most accommodative...when table turns idea too turns...

What if you have done if the actor was not a muslim in name...Dont post lame excuse and criticise other community just becoz a particular actor had acted in it...The film criticised every religion in totality....

Hindi films in earlier days had christian names for cabaret dancers. Albert Pinto, Anthony Gonsalves, Dsoza, Braganza were the drunkards and Dons . It looked as though 3% of India's population (men, women, children included) drank all the liquor sold in India.

But christian community had to keep quiet because some from their CHAPPA behaved such. So the community worked hard to change the character of their CHAPPA.

Today either the liquor is guzzled down by all, or Pintos, gonsalves dsouzas do not drink as much. And everyone else has graduated to becoming real life dons.

No one burnt down cinemas when christian chappa was exploited, it was recreation / creativity after all they said.

    Today...

'kalak ayleli bodi, bollaki etha' . Let us clean our CHAPPA if it has distortions.

Today writers are afraid, publishers are afraid - everybody is afraid because unknowingly if they use a word, a phrase, a name, then offices, buildings, businesses are burnt down... to protect the GOD and his holy name.

Atrocities on fellow human beings, women in particular, because god says so.

Come on.. grow up... What goes around, comes around.

Sensible decision by young CM!! we should be tolerant to criticism and take it in our stride and try to improve our religion! ... and specially when Censor has approved the movie, Governemnt should not interfere in it.. instead should give protection to theaters against vandalisers... no ruckus should eb allowed in future no matter what religion they belong to!

however, two words for censor cheif.. stop entertaining religious leaders and politicians and have special show for their concerns! if you cant handle it and pass on your own judgement, resign to your positions!...

LEELA SAMSON and Jewish catholic, has no expertise in film making.. she is a bharatnatya dancer and may not understand the meduim well! ALSO, SHE WAS A TUTOR TO PRIYANKA GANDHI and she is known for her strong "leftist views" and against Hinduism.. all her life, she has benefitted with her associationg with congress, Kendra sahitya akademi president, Censor chief etc!! I think, she should be little sensible enough to expose the hypocrites and string agendas of Aamir khan, who is known Anti-Modi and Anti hindu guy ever since his "FIRE" film days!

PK message - in the process of 'protecting' god - god of our creation, we are creating unhappiness. Let us look at the core message.

God is ONE and supreme, beyond our limited abilities. God can not be protected, restrained.

We different religions, use 'chappa' given by our elders, try to reach same god, our way.

We are 'supremacy' hungry, we kill / harm others who are also reaching same destination but with different 'chappa'.

We expect people with other 'chappa' to understand and tolerate our 'chappa' which they do not know about.

Why chappa A should know everything about chappa B, or B should know C?

Based on how chappa A lives in society, B & C understand the Chappa.
If chappa A practices 'love of humanity' that is how others will understand chappa A.

If chappa A practices barbarious / criminal ways, then others understand it that way.

If chappa A practices superstition, oppression, violence, then others understand it that way.

Otherwise, A doesn't know what is holy in B, B doesn't understand what is holy in C.

We have killed people of other chappas saying 'you have desecrated my holy, that name, this name, this place, that place'. How other chappas are supposed to know your chappa? Do you behave that way in society - that you have anything holy in your chappa?

I hope PK creates enough waves and reaches the concience of everyone in the troubled times. For man made chappa sake, we are killing 'god's creations.

PK is relevant. Those who oppose PK surely belong to a bad chappa.
