Kundapur: Yellow rain in Amasebail surprises residents

Daijiworld Media Network - Kundapur (SP)

Kundapur, Jan 1: The people of Amasebail, located at the foot of the Western Ghats, had a surprise in store on Wednesday December 31. They got yellow colour rain twice during the day. Not only was the colour of the rain yellow, but the raindrops left yellow dots on surfaces.

Amasebail area was enveloped by clouds since Wednesday morning. The early morning rain was yellow, and yellow dots were seen on earth, cement sheets, roofs, vehicles, etc. When these drops dried up, powdery residue was found.

Yellow rain was experienced in the village and surrounding places. Although no immediate explanation for the phenomenon was given, some feel that it may be due to dust particles, chemicals, fungi etc in the air, which would have got mixed with rainwater. There have been reports of coloured rainfall even in the past although very sparingly.

I am thinking, this might have happened due to chemical reaction. When water mixed with gas in the air (could be Carbon Dioxide)which will turn the water into acidic.

Yellow usually is the colour for elemental sulphur or this could also be simple tree pollen viz. quite a common phenomenon.

You could try using a red litmus paper to check if the rain is acidic. Needs further investigation though.

friends, if the rain water has turned yellow u can imagine the extent of air pollution present in the area.our pollution control board is good for nothing.
sulphur gasses are very harmful to human health and also to the plants or trees, authorities should look into this

This is because of sulphur dust or clouds which get suspended in the atmosphere and mixes with the clouds and gives yellow rain.Maybe there is a company in the vicinity of 50 kms which give out gases which also consists of sulphur. No need to panic because this is a common phenomena during an odd rainy shower.
