Mangaluru: DC asks medical officers to provide residential treatment to endo victims

Mangaluru, Jan 1: Dakshina Kannada district deputy commissioner (DC), A B Ibrahim, has advised medical officers of primary health centres in the district to personally visit 186 patients, who are unable to move about after suffering from various disabilities due to the side effects of endosulfan use, at their homes and treat them suitably.

He was speaking after presiding over the progress review meeting of rehabilitation programme of endosulfan victims in Dakshina Kannada district on Wednesday December 31.

Medical officer, Dr Arun, said that the district accounts for 3,107 endosulfan victims, out of which, 1,933 persons are eligible to receive monthly pension of Rs 3,000 each, with 682 persons getting pension of Rs 1,500 per month. Out of them, 186 are bedridden,while 23 died during the year, he disclosed.

Zilla panchayat executive officer, Tulasi Maddineni, suggested to the endosulfan victims to come together and form a cooperative society so as to effectively tackle the problem of managing nursing centres on 24x7 basis.
