Udupi, Jan 5: A colourful ‘Hore Kanike’ procession held as part of the inaugural of the newly built Mount Rosary Church, Kallianpur, Santhekatte, was flagged off by CMC president P Yuvaraj.  The procession was held on Monday January 5.

The Hore Kanike motorcade accompanied by a brass band began in front of Karnataka Bank, Ambagilu, and passed through the national highway before concluding at Mount Rosary Church. A large number of devotees participated in the procession.

It was led by Fr Dennis D’Sa, Ananth S Bhat, and P Abubakkar and saw the participation of school children and various women’s organization members.

The traditional Hore Kanike had many truckloads of offerings of vegetables, rice, and coconuts presented to the Church.

Many cultural and folk arts, gymnastics by youths, tableaux, ‘Chande’, and ‘Huli Vesha’ dance were part of the procession.

You are correct Archibald, even I felt the same. This being exceptional case (opening of Church) and to depict our faith to other religion.

Wonderful procession organized in very unique fashion. The concept of religious harmony was very evident and I am sure it has sent an example to all misconstrued denominations of the society how peace loving is the Christian Community truly walks in the footsteps of Jesus Christ.
I am only pained with one of the dramatized scenes that depicts, Christ carrying the cross which only lead to mockery of Christ's Passion in other words is the most sanctified event on which the foundation of entire Christian faith is firmly rooted. Such scene's should be avoided in general circumstances and restricted to Good Friday only.

I attended this programme. Daiji world has not included many beautiful pics of this procession. The procession was the first of its kind in Udupi and if am not mistaken also in Mangalore. The procession was about 2 Kms long. Que was strictly followed and no shouting and chit chatting. Minimum traffic inconvenience in the highway for the first time for such a huge procession. Water and cold drinks well arranged and supplied in plenty. Snacks were served to all people in abundance. Irrespective of all religions people watched with great attention. Police men had absolutely no problem in handling the crowd. I could listen praises for this procession from my Hindu brothers. Thanks for making this even a grand success.

It is nice to see many of the hindu traditions being incorporated in this celebration. But please avoid dressing up as Jesus and adding this as an item (hattharalli hannondu). I see this being done in many churches during lent and it serves only as a item of entertainment.

Nice secular procession except for the enactment of Christ's passion. It is irrelevant for the occasion.Building so many Churches and Shrines within a short span of a generation shows our Christian brothers have become very rich.

Holding cross and walking cannot be a part of the celebration.
It is a part of agony in the Life of Jesus and all the followers of Jesus. Cannot be taken as fun costume.

Please correct me if I am wrong I do not see anything bad in this celebration, But when we realize that the story and the life of Jesus Christ we feel that it could be told a thousand different ways, and that we can tell it over and over as a tragedy, We have been always been told again and again that we should be grateful that Jesus Christ has died for our sins and this is what Celebration is...

    You really don't get it,
let me share a bit of sense with you, The cross is God's way of taking away all of our sins, excuses and your arguments, Take a pause Just keep asking yourself, what would Jesus do to keep me quite now, And please don’t reply, Have a Blessed Day...

Good Friday is a day of celebration..... Someone with great revelation had named it as good Friday cos that day Satan was defeated on cross. Even Jesus said not to mourn over him. Jesus is seated at the right of God and he might be thinking seeing down why these people are mourning over me

I think Kalyanpur is a piece of Xanadu. In this age of communal hatredness, what an expression of togetherness. See the banners, those are all well wishers from all community.
Let this spread across Dakshina Kannada, whole of Karnataka and India.

Irony is that Sidramayya is planning count how many wellwishers here are Christians, dalit Christians, vokkaliga Christians, hindus, different castes of hindus, scs, sts, etc. etc...

All my wishes to inaugural function of the newly built Mount Rosary Church, Kallianpur, Santhekatte.
