Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi (UM)

Udupi, Jan 16: In a major robbery early on Friday January 16, a fish merchant was looted of Rs 7 lac at Kadekar here.

Loknath (47), a fish merchant and resident of Kadekar, was on his way to Malpe port to buy fish in bulk when the incident took place.

It is learnt that Loknath was riding towards Malpe port, when, at TMA Pai road in Kadekar three persons came in two bikes and waylaid his scooter. They then looted him of Rs 7 lac, which he had brought for purchasing fish, and fled the spot.

Loknath then filed a complaint with the Malpe police.

Police suspect that the robbers might have kept a watch on Loknath's movements and obtained prior information about his plans, or it might be an inside job of someone at the Malpe port, they say.

Malpe police have registered a case and further investigations are on.

While condemning the robbery, a sum of 7 lacs to buy fresh fish in bulk sounds too much, actual amount could be less!!

System has to be changed. Either he have to transfer the fund online or pay by current dated cheque. Carrying a huge cash is risky in India.
