Prabha Arun Kumar nee Shetty usually worked in the city, but on that fateful Saturday she had visited a client in the suburb of Rhodes. There was no one following her from the Parramatta Railway Station where she alighted and passed through the concourse talking to her husband in India. The theory is that someone hiding behind a tree in the park began to stalk her and that he was wearing a hoodie. These types of cases are carried out by persons always known to the victim and statistics prove this. Another theory suggests, the would-be-killer was alerted when someone passed speaking audibly in a foreign language and it was a random attack.

Reports also indicate her hand bag and cell phone have been found, if not the culprit could have been found by now using mobile tracking technology. Even the jewellery she wore was intact. Detectives have been going door to door interviewing residents covering a wide area.

It is rare people work on Saturdays or Sundays here except the hospitality industry and they are usually cared for reaching their homes safely if it is late. People do not normally walk through the park late night and Prabha was even warned about this. Parks in the big cities especially during weekend nights belong to the drug addicts, drunkards and the homeless as is the case anywhere in the world. The park and even the roads here are dimly lit presumably to protect the other creatures which are 4 times than that of the human population.

Hitherto, no-one knows what the motive of the attack was. Her brother has been quoted as saying that she never mentioned of any racial harassment here in the last 3 years. Whoever it is, may he be arrested soon and be put behind bars for the rest of his life and justice be done. Australia does not have a death penalty.

May Prabha’s soul rest in Peace.

Sad - indeed a very sad episode in the life and history of a wonderful young lady Prabha.

Hope the guilty will be taken to task and severely punished for the heinous crime.

I join several others in offering my sincere sympathies to the husband and the other members of the bereaved family.

Very sad incident. May god help family members. I am sure central govt helped the husband through this difficult process, which is very appreciable. She will be laid to rest in hometown which is the only positive outcome from this tragedy. Let us pray..
