Bangladesh 'made to lose' in World Cup: Hasina

Dhaka, March 21 (IANS): Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has said her country was "made to lose" the cricket World Cup quarterfinal against India, according to media reports on Saturday.

"There's nothing to be upset. Everyone has seen how we were made to lose. We will win in the future," she said, according to a bdnews24.com report.

"We would have won if the umpires did not give wrong decisions. Insha Allah, Bangladesh will win in the future. Bangladesh will become world champions someday," she said.

The prime minister's comments came after International Cricket Council (ICC) president Mustafa Kamal, from Bangladesh, courted a major controversy when he said the on-field umpires, England's Ian Gould and Pakistan's Aleem Dar, had entered the match with an agenda, according to media reports.

Kamal questioned the umpires' integrity and went on to imply that they had favoured India in their adjudication, The Melbourne Age reported.

The controversy centred around a decision by Gould and Dar, in which Indian batsman Rohit Sharma was adjudged caught off a no-ball when he was batting on 90, and hence, was given not out.

The umpires ruled that the ball from Rubel Hossain was above the batsman's waist and therefore was not a legal delivery, though television replays showed that the ball had only been at waist height when it hit Sharma's bat.

Sharma made a century and Bangladesh went on to lose the match by 109 runs at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) which put paid to their hopes of qualifying for the semi-finals for the first time in their cricket history.

The ICC, in a statement on Friday, refuted the allegations made by Kamal and termed his comments "very unfortunate, but made in his personal capacity" and said that "he should have been more considerate in his criticism of ICC match officials", according to the Melbourne Age report.

Not a fair comment from the Bangla prime-minister. Rohit Sharma is not the only player to bat .. there are other 10 players too. If he was given out then others would have seen thru.. I felt Sheikh Hasina's statement is like a joke!

Bhangala cricketers reached quarter finals is a big achievement.
They lost the match but not without giving a fight and some exciting moments in the match. India deserves to be the winners and may be we will bring the world cup.

Bangaladesh lost no because of bad Umpiring but because Bangala Cricketers were too busy looking at thee Bangladesh Film Actresses who were among the Crowd.
Just like India even in Bangladesh and Pakistan the Film actresses are always trying to catch cricketers.

In India, Pak, and Bangladesh Film actresses always try to trap only Cricketers or Tennis players. But in USA & Europe film actresses fall for only Basket Ball or Football players and they do not know what is Cricket ! So it is fame and glamour in respective countries which is important for film actresses and not the game. If football was number one game in India then all these Bollywood actresses would have ran after Baichung Bhutiya the number one star footballer of India.

Cricket is a game and has to be played as game and good team won the game. But I have seen even when India lost the matches people will blame the umpires, pitch or spectators etc. Why this type of politics in Game?????

Once upon a time even Sri Lanka was so weak that they were not even able to win against Indian Ranji teams. But later on they became the most powerful team among Nine cricket playing countries ( Yes, only nine countries play cricket seriously and out of them three are from Indian sub-continents).
    So do not under-estimate Bangaladesh.

I don't think a lot of people are taking the Bangladesh protest seriously because this is not the first time umpires made mistakes. Further, if Rohit was given out at that point, India would have still managed to score 300 . These Bangladeshi's have no patience and always find ways to come on street to protest. Who cares anyway.

Once when Sachin Tendulkar was on 97, of all the umpires, Simon Taufel gave him out LBW. When Simon Taufel realised that it was a wrong decision, it was too late. He personally apologised to Sachin Tendulkar. But Sachin Tendulkar was not called back to continue with the inning. The umpires have to watch so many things, like the foot of the bowler, the number of player allowed in the circle, the height of the ball and so many other things. They are human beings and can not be 100% accurate all the time. It takes maturity to understand. I understand if there was just 1 or two runs required for a win or one or two wickets needed for a win. In this case, even if Rohit was given out at that score, the other players would have come and played, because wickets were still in hand. Bangladesh will ruin their cricketing future with these childish comments. Hope they will realise their mistake and apologise to the umpires.

If you are not big enough to lose you are too small to win.
People spend too much time finding other people to blame, too much energy finding excuses for not being what they are capable of being, and not enough energy putting themselves on the line, growing out of the past, and getting on with their lives.
“Come on Bangladesh you are too small to tackle Indian cricket team yet. Play by your capacity not by your feelings” !!!
