Mangaluru: A year since Rohit's death - Investigation yet to progress

Mangaluru, Mar 22: It has been a year since the headless body of Rohit Radhakrishnan (22) was found near the beach road towards Tannir Bavi on the fateful morning of March 23, 2014. The tears of his parents Dr Sreedevi and advocate Radhakrishnan have not dried. Nightmares are hounding them and his dear and near every night and day.

Dr Sreedevi who is a practicing pediatrician working at Bahrain at the time, could not bear the loss of her son, is back home at Kuzhikkala Pathanamthitta, working with a hospital nearby and his father advocate Radhakrishnan is trying to bury his sorrows in his profession. But it has not been easy as they lost their one and only child. Who could help them go get over with their sorrow, and grief? The fact is none - All friends and relatives could do was advise philosophy and may be sympathies on the loss.

The sad part is that, there is no support from any of the so-called democratic machinery. After discovering the mutilated body on the roadside, the basic action taken by the responsible was to cover-up the incident by trying to write it off as a freak accident!

It was close relatives with the support of the media who made hue and cry to open the case again and relook into it. If one looks at the recent death of the IAS officer D K Ravi, one can observe many similarities in the case. Here also authorities are writing it off as a suicide without any proof or evidence. After the public agitation only they are taking little steps, even to investigate the case. In the case of Rohit Radhakrishnan, it is going in the same direction, say the family. "Initially the police was trying to close the case declaring and registering case as an accident. Later CB-CID was declared, which as an eye wash to pacify agitating parents and the public. What is the result of that enquiry? Where does it stand? No one knows," the family say.

"All these mockeries are only to divert attention of the public as well as the media from the issue and then divert the case as they wanted and to close it discreetly. When the case been thrown in the dustbin there won’t be any convincing explanation as it would be done out of the media glare," they say.

The family claims that there was hard effort from the investigation team to prove that it is an accident. But the team never answered the questions being raised challenging the observation and conclusions made by the police or investigating team, they say.

In a media release, the family questions, "If something happens in this world, there should be a reason, explanation and a scientific briefing to justify that incident. If all available enquiries made are not providing a convincing answer for the accident theory, then what should be the conclusion. 'Murder'! Nothing other than that. To look for a culprit, first the conclusion should be made on the cause of death. Unfortunately, only effort being made by the investigators are to trying to fabricate evidence to prove that Rohit’s death was due to an accident."

"We do not trust or believe in the line of investigation that is in progress. There should be a convincing reply answer for the questions being raised during the death and enquiry process," the release states.

"Knowing the real cause of death is the fundamental right of the parents and the society. If it is not happening, the very basic philosophy of the society itself will be questioned," it states.

Some of the questions raised by the family in the media release:

- Even after one year of the incident why the accident theory could not be established?
- Why the investigators are not looking at the murder angle, when there are glaring evidences pointing to murder.
- Why the autopsy was conducted not by a police surgeon?
- Why embalming was done without the consent of immediate relatives?
- Why the video tape (mandatory) of the autopsy is missing?
- Why the conflicting statements of his friends who were with him till the last moment were (not) investigated further?
- Why the police tried to hush-up the case declaring as a freak accident?
- Why there was a inordinate delay in even declaring a CB CID enquiry?
- What was the outcome of that enquiry even after one year?
- Why they have not questioned the local people who had identified the body and still believe it as a murder?
- Will there be any justice at the end for the devastated parents and the relatives?

I feel no boy should be given a bile to ride at young age, They drive so fast and cause accidents. Parents I feel should never give 2 wheeler to young children, They will misuse it to make girl friends drive fast and may die also.

The Doctor who performed the autopsy played a key role on destroying the evidence.
There are quite a few people involved in the entire crime.
The body was placed at the fake accident site

Rudolf, as you said such clean-cut-decapitation is possible with sharp thin steel wire tied to the poles or trees from right to left across the road. It is possible that some mischievous boys of that same locality might have tied such wire and after the accident when they saw the gory scene of decapitation they might have removed that wire before informing the police about the accident.

According to your theory, its a desolate road where no other vehicles move, but were aware a bike would come that way & boys who played this prank were doing that at night time! And they have the audacity to report it after removing the wire placed just at the height of neck!
Theory of Probability, which debunks other more probable theory of involvement of friends with whom he was with having a hand in this planting of evidence & creating a scene.

In Gujarat state during Kite Flying season the people who compete with each other in cutting the kites, were applying a sort of gum mixed with glass powder to the thread, and when such thread is used for flying kites on the roads by boys, many times the thread has cut the throat of scooter or bike riders and killed them on the spot. Of course complete decapitation has not taken place in such cases but considerable portion of neck & wind pipe were cut. That is why Gujarat & Maharashtra govt has completely banned use of such gum & glass powder for strengthening threads of kites.
Police can think over the plausible theory stated by Ravi Shenava Mangalore.

Hon Doc, you are trying to divert attention by giving some unconnected/unwarranted example of an airplane vanishing and a 'localized individual' dying with clear cut evidence that it not possible due to an accident???

ABSOLUTELY NO DOUBT "BIRDS OF A FEATHER FLOCK TOGETHER"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Doc, I am a "Wonderer" always asking questions as to why, why, and why??

What was the 'urgency' in embalming it in 'haste' before the parents arrived?

Have you ever seen such a 'clean cut decapitation' in your career other than from a 'sharp wire' or 'shear' whereas nothing of that sort was reported to be found near the site of the accident?

The above are viewpoints based on the news reports in the media that were available in the public domain from time to time!! Jai Hind!!!!

I am a professor of forensic medicine. These are my comments on the two issues raised in this media release.

Q: Why the autopsy was not conducted by a police surgeon?
A: There are no police surgeons in Karnataka. These officers are existing in Kerala and the equally competent medico-legal experts are doing postmortems in Karnataka.

Q: Why the video tape (mandatory) of the autopsy is missing?

A: I do not want to comment on missing video if it was there before.
However, It is not mandatory to record the video of postmortem in these type of cases. Mandatory video recording is done in custodial deaths.

    Money can buy anything.
Both Sowjanya and Rohit's death will remain a mystery for ever.
Law of the land is applicable only to poor people in society.

WHY can't they arrest his close friends and interrogate in custody for 2-3 week.
The local Police can solve this case within in no time. But they don't want to do it. Because money has shut their mouth.

Justice is always illusive when the persons who had caused this crime have Money & Political Power.
    CBI is also not overboard!
Their Chief Ranjith Sinha was found dealing with accused persons at his Residence!
Blaming politicians or parties is futile as well, as they are what they are because of us. Unless people unite & teach them lesson in Democracy they will remain what they are.

There is so much of money and power with some people that they can wriggle out by doing anything and everything!! In such a situation what can a common citizen do to redress his grievance other than to curse his own fate!

I empathize with the parents and cannot imagine to think what they might be going through after losing their only son, their only hope for which they were living!!!

If there is anything called 'divine justice', as all religions propagate, definitely it will be done someday for the tears shed by the parents, hope this will bring some solace to the bereaved parents!! Jai Hind!!

My sympathies to the parents of Rohit. Nothing can be worse than losing one's children, more so mysterious circumstances. So far as investigating agencies are concerned, we cannot expect any fair play, specially in Karnataka - this state is known for corruption since decades, when I say corruption it includes moral corruption too .. To date we have not had "CLEAN" Politicians rule this state, Congress, BJP and the local parties are all the same. Rather than go to history, just see the way the present CM / Home Minister and the Police are handling the case of an upright IAS officer - their core job was to ensure that the Politician / builders / Business mafia was the prime target and tke the case from thereon, but we here from the pwers that be are harping on some silly issues of his personal life, this is to deviate the public opinion. I must say that the pulse of the people is different now and this will be the beginning of the end for Home Minister Mallu George and Sid. I wish the parents of Rohit get justice and I am sure that with the CBI handling the DK Ravi case - the politicians and the Mafia responsible for his death will be made public. Shame on the Congress.

The same useless CID dept is investigating the case of D K Ravi. Just imagine what will be the final report. When they could not solve a simple case of Rohit since last one year, how can they investigate impartially the case of D K Ravi in which very influential people are involved ?

Even in this case of Rohit some influential people from his Medical college are involved. That is why there is no progress since last 12 months, and even the statements of his room-mates and classmates are not recorded properly.
CID has not even made simple inquiry with college authorities.
