Saudi Arabia resumes flights to southern region

Riyadh, March 27 (IANS): Saudi Arabia on Friday resumed all flights to airports in its southern region except for Abha Airport that will remain closed until further notice, media reported on Friday.

An official from the General Organization of the Saudi Airline told the online Elaf paper that the decision was taken in coordination with the Saudi Civil Aviation, according to Xinhua news agency.

Saudi Arabia announced on Thursday temporary suspension of local and international flights to airports in the southern region of the country.

The suspension covered King Abdullah Airport in Jizan and other airports in Abha, Wadi Al Dawasir, Sharurah and Najran from the dawn of Thursday.

Early Thursday, Saudi Arabia carried out airstrikes against the Shia Houthi group in Yemen to support legitimate President Abd-Rabbu Mansour Hadi.

Ten countries, including five Gulf Cooperation Council countries, are involved in the air raids.
