Car drivers intercept bus, pelt stones, choke traffic on highway

Daijiworld Media Network - Udupi (SP)

Udupi, May 13: Drivers of two cars, a Qualis with Maharashtra registration number, and the other, a new car that is yet to be registered, intercepted an express bus that was moving to Mangaluru from the town, and pelted stones at the bus driver. The incident occurred on national highway 66 at Pangala near Katapadi on Tuesday May 12 afternoon.

In the incident, the window glass of Mookambika express bus by the side of the driver was shattered. The driver and a boy sitting behind him suffered minor injuries.

After pelting stones, the drivers tried to make good their escape, sensing that people were gathering around and they might face trouble. However, the people stopped them and informed Kaup police. Kaup police came to Pangala and took into custody both the cars and the bus. Due to the incident, vehicles made a long queue on both sides of Pangala for about 30 minutes before policemen came and cleared the road. As smaller vehicles tried to sneak through the stranded vehicles, policemen faced problems in easing the traffic. Locals worked with them to handle the situation.

It is said that the car drivers were angry that the bus driver did not allow them to overtake the bus. One of the drivers of the cars suffered minor injury to his hand in this incident. After the policemen brought people from both sides to the station and held talks, both the parties agreed for truce and left without registering any case, it is gathered.

No surprise by the behavior of the Maharashtra registered vehicle..these people are used to doing all the shit possible and getting away with it..A bus has 40 to 50 passengers in it and it has to be given priority on the road..This act and rowdy behaviour of "attacking" has travelled to our motherland "Dakshina Kannada" due to a few political parties who encourage such culture of voilence and hatered to hurt others..

While condemning the car driver's pelting stones in a bus filled with innocent passengers, the pvt. bus drivers of DK definitely deserve such treatment on regular basis to remind them of their brazen and rowdy type of behavior and attitude towards the passengers, pedestrians, and other motorists violating all rules!!

Definitely they might have done something very irritating to have incensed the car drivers into such rage!! Jai Hind!!

This is Simply "ROAD RAGE". A thoughtful attentive & experienced driver will never do this kind of foolishness which these drivers showed off in public. Such Drivers actually are Human Time Bombs ready to explode any time due to there personal frustration or to show off to fellow passengers in their vehicle I am a better driver with good control of vehicle.
Least to be said of the express bus drivers who are the worst & inexperienced drivers with patience kept in fixed deposit God knows where. If you don't give them to overtake they will honk their jarring/illegal horns & try every means to overtake your vehicle even in no overtaking zone/narrow bridges/city limit etc.
This is my personal experience Bus drivers from Mangalore/Kerala/Rajasthan/Delhi & Himachal have no patience & always in a hurry even if it costs life due to rash & negligent driving.

Dangerous behaviour of car occupants....this might have cost bus passengers lives due to diversion of drivers attention on road whilst driving...police shouldh've taken stringent action on car occupants.

''After the policemen brought people from both sides to the station and held talks, both the parties agreed for truce and left without registering any case, it is gathered.''

What is wrong with police. that is why we have problem with lawlessness in india. Its like do anything, whatever you want. Just take this example, The persons from the two vehicles were wrong to behave in such a manner. an appropriate punishment would others to think before the commit such act. But no, police agreed a truce between the parties involved. Why dont police try to agree truce between all the parties for all other crime be it rape, murder or anything else.

There is a need to curb road rage. but based on what the police did over here is not good in setting precedent.

Oh God, traffic on Mangalore – Udupi highway and the way the buses run on this…! Good that people stopped these 2 cars and handed the drivers to the Police who will take necessary action against them including the bus driver. Everyone is in a hurry and what happened at the end…, a 30 minutes pleasure ride to the police station!

Could have displayed the photo of Mr. A.J. D’Souza & his famous knife while overtaking the bus…!

Please try this simple calculation/formula to find out what difference does speed provides you.
Formula is DISTANCE divided by SPEED multiplied by TIME (in minutes).

Say for example, you are traveling 100km distance with 100km/hr speed in 60 minutes. If you apply the above formula (100 / 100 X 60 = 60 minutes). And for the same distance with 120km/hr speed in 60 minutes, you will reach the distance in 49.99 minutes (100 / 120 X 60 = 49.99) and for the same distance with 140km/hr speed in 60 minutes, you will reach the distance in 42.85 minutes (100 / 140 X 60 = 42.85). So from a speed of 100km/hr – 140km/hr, the difference in time is only 17.15 minutes. But the consequence of driving 140km/hr are much worse than driving 100km/hr.

its bound to happen. even we feel like slap these bloody bus drivers. they feel they own the road and theirs is the fastest moving vehicle in the world and nobody can over take them. they literally play around. Won't any vehicle to over take them. I feel, they should brought the driver down and slapped him nicely and then proceeded so that at least one driver will not repeat this mistake in future. I always drive from Mangalore towards Mulky and I face this problem. It's very hard to over take a express. Good this incident happened and at least the drive of the bus is not let as it is... at least he will think twice next time.

after a trip from mangalore to mulky last week, it is not difficult to understand why the car guys got into a fight with the bus. The private buses dont have any respect for rules and other road users.

Unnecessarily increasing number of drivers, multiplying number of vehicles due to ego, pride and jealousy are burdening the roads with heavy traffic and accidents and making the life miserable for the people.

In advanced countries, public transports have priority and it is not courtesy but by law. In India, single driver in car needs priority over public bus carrying 50 to 60 commuters.

Yes, Public bus is carrying 60 to 100 passengers which represent 50 cars or 75 two wheelers on roads. The need is to analyse the importance of each vehicle on road, their tme taken and space occupied.

So they were taken to the police station for fun, to have tea go home sweet home. What about this dangerous incident that took place and so much of inconvenience caused. These car people will repeat this incident and create a history one day. Take the cops to task for not registering a case. Jai Hind.

Why they made so many peoples time waste if they had plan to make truce or handshake finally? Non sense. Police should have fined them instead for troubling others.

    Clarification....
If they had to make such nuisance, they should have done out of the road and fight or truce to avoid inconvenience to the travelers.
