Braveheart officer from Karkala Sudhir Amin dies battling fire in Mumbai

Daijiworld Media Network - Karkala (SP)

Karkala, May 15: Deputy chief of fire brigade at Mumbai, Sudhir G Amin (50), who suffered 92 percent burns when fighting fire which erupted in century-old 'Gokul Nivas' building in Kalbadevi in South Mumbai, breathed his last on Thursday May 14.

Amin was battling for life in the intensive care unit of National Burns Centre at Airoli, Navi Mumbai. He had suffered multiple organ failure.

Amin had earned President's gallantry award for his fire rescue work during the 26/11 Mumbai terror attack. On May 11 he was belatedly granted a promotion due since over five months by the BMC.

The firemen of the metro paid him rich tribute, besides giving him a guard of honour in recognition of his exemplary contribution to the service of the nation.

Amin had rushed to help out the distressed people of Kalbadevi, although it was a holiday for him. He had enterd the building to save two of his colleagues, who were facing risk of life inside the building. Amin had got stuck inside thereafter with his colleagues, and could be rescued after a long time. But by then he had suffered extensive fourth degree burn injuries.

Amin from Daddody in Nitte in the taluk, was to visit his hometown on May 13. He had been identified as an honest and efficient officer, and he was promoted as the deputy chief of Mumbai fire brigade two days before the fatal accident.

Why Dy. fire chief warden went for fire-fighting? who sent? He should have only supervised. Very sorry state of affairs! Same had happened when Karkare,Saklaskar,Kamte went in one jeep as chickens only to be fired with M6 guns by kasab and gang.

Yogesh sorry to say but one of the reason india has remained a backward country because of this mentality of people like yours. You mean to say a leader has to stay in the back and push others ahead as you said had inspectors karkare make salaskar had not thrown themselves in the front line and had fought the death toll of 26 11 would have more than double what inspiration push motivation can a leader to his people who stands at the back of the line and orders the people to fight ahead

It is outright stupid to throw urself into fire or to terrorists(they should have gone into 3 directions in 3 diff jeeps) before even assesing what weapons they are having. It is not valour but stupidity of u ppl or hi-command that india is in this condition now

I was fortunate to meet this great gentleman a couple of years back(approx. 11 to 12yrs.) when we had a fire at my previous office at Shalimar Indl. Est., Dharavi/Matunga.

He was a humble, simple and honest Fire Officer. He had a great "deep voice" too and later I met him a few times at his Bandra West & Malad West(Chincholi) Fire Station office.
When I read todays news paper with his pic./article, I couldn't even believe for a while but it was the fact.

Mumbai has lost another Brave Son and back home in Karkala(Nitte) too.

We Salute you Sir. May your soul rest in peace.Amen.

This reminds me ditto how Mumbai had lost(26/11) a couple of brave/intelligent police officers like Mr. Hemanth Karkare who was one amongst them.

    Condolences to his family.

Amin Sir, I truly miss you and I have no words to explain how true you were to your duties.

Totally selfless man....tears rolled down in.....

Sudhir Amin’s legacy: Firemen are now treated in pvt hospitals.

This martyr the deputy chief fire officer, who passed away yesterday, had given R 1 lakh from his own pocket to ensure that an injured colleague was admitted to a private hospital which was turning him away in 2008 the selfless gesture shamed the BMC into finally making emergency funds available last year
WHEN Deputy Fire Officer Sudhir Amin passed away yesterday from injuries sustained in last week’s Kalbadevi blaze, the fire department and the city lost someone who was known not just for being brave, but also selfless!!~Mumbai Midday~

Salute you once again and the parents who gave birth to such a brave, selfless, and kind hearted person!!

RIP Sir!! Truly a martyr's death!! Pray that the bereaved family comes to terms with the great loss soon!!

Not to forget the other officers who sacrificed their lives in this grim tragedy!!

The Govt. should consider giving him and the others who sacrificed their lives in this tragedy very hefty compensation over and above the measly compensation they are eligible for, these are the martyrs who deserve it!!

one of those public services which is hardly recognized in India, i know it does not mean a thing if we just talk about them just for a day, but lets take a moment from our busy lives, stop connecting everything to politics and pray for these brave men like Late Deputy chief of fire brigade, Sudhir G Amin who have devoted their precious lives to save us. May your soul rest in Peace. Amen!

rest in peace sir!... Mumbai has been safe because all your efforts over the years! you have fought and rescued so many, save their property life, risking your own, and worst is, you have fought with fire, without proper firegears, substandard gum boots and uniform and hemlet.. consider taking a engine in the narrow bylanes of mumbai, with traffic and chaos around in case of emergency with no time to plan- You are the honest soldiers of the city! I hope BMC and current govt makes proper procurement and also makes life easy for the stressed firemen!... a tearful adieu sir! we are grateful to you and other two martyrs and your entire deparment! hope things change for better and we dont have to shed tears, once we lose the likes of you! Alvida...
