Mangalore, Apr 18: The Anti-illicit Liquor Committee has called for a shut-down of illicit liquor manufacturing units in and around the city.

Addressing a press meet here on Tuesday April 17, committee president Clifford Lobo urged the government to take appropriate action against the units in Tannirbavi, Bolur, Bokkapatna, Kudroli, Kasbabengre and other places.

Elaborating on the ill effects of these units, Lobo said that already 30 people have died due to consumption of liquor from these units since 2000 while another two have gone missing and another 200 have become addicts.

There are ten families involved in the business of manufacturing and selling illicit liquor and the list of their names has been forwarded to the excise and the police departments, but the authorities have failed to take action in this regard, informed Lobo.

Among those present were committee honorary president Devdas Bolur, vice-president Jeevan Pereira, secretary Prasanna Devdas and advisor Yashwant Bolur.
