New UAE online law: Dh250,000 fine for swearing on WhatsApp, expats could be deported

Dubai, Jun 16 (Emirates24|7): Persons swearing online at others could be fined Dh250,000 and jailed, while expatriates could also be deported from the UAE under a new federal law governing internet users.

The new law was underscored by the Federal Supreme Court, which overturned two lower court sentences fining a man Dh3,000 after he was convicted of swearing at another on WhatsApp.

The court supported an appeal by the prosecutor who argued that the sentence was too lenient and did not conform to the new laws that include a penalty of Dh250,000 or imprisonment for persons involved in online offences.

“FSC supported the prosecutor’s appeal and affirmed the need for the enforcement of the law governing information technology crimes involving a Dh250,000 fine and deportation from the country,” 'Emarat Al Youm' daily said.

It said the court demanded the retrial of the defendant by another court by upheld a previous sentence acquitting him from threat charges.

Swearing is one way of taking out one's frustration. If you don't ventilate the frustration, it may end up in major crime. Swearing doesn't bother for people with thick skin. Why the court has to involved in unless someone come forward and prove that he was hurt by the swearing.

People show me middle finger almost every day because I am a lousy driver. Even ladies do that and I say thank you to them.

Allan Dcosta, Rules for each country are different and when one works or lives there has to abide by them if you have to survive there. You surely have NO RIGHT to condemn people who are here & call names like cheats etc. You work hard we agree, but people here too work hard to earn their living. It just doesn't mean that people in gulf work hard & we back home do not. Also if people have remained back home in India, there could be a valid reason behind it in most cases.
you can not say " you people back home " where is your home? isnt it back here? dont you have roots here ? Come on let us not use this as platform to this extent.

The law doesn't make any sense. If a person is offended by another person online he has the option of blocking him.if they are friends they will sort it out between themselves. The government interference in such issues is unnecessary.

Unlike guys back home know only cheating and how to degrade others. Why do you feel Happy when something rules come in dubai or gulf. Have you gone through the rules issued here. That's the difference between you guys sitting there and crying and here. And by the way if we call feku it is true because it is feku. Now cry vhe vhe vhe.......
