Udupi, Jun 24: Kota Srinivas Poojary, Kundapur MLC, held a press meet at his office on Tuesday June 23 regarding sanctioning of revised minimum wage and regularization of staff nurses who are working on contracts.

Addressing the media persons, he said, “A decision had been taken to regularize contract workers. Approximately 21 staff nurses are working in Udupi District Health and Family Welfare Authority on contract. They are getting Rs 4,575 as fixed wage under RCHFR project instead of Rs 7,000 per month. Out of total 21 nurses, five are getting Rs 8,000 per month and the rest of them are getting Rs 4,575 per month.”

He urged that a minimum wage of Rs 17, 650 be fixed for permanent nurses under governmental law. “Otherwise, the cabinet members will stage a protest meeting in front of the state minister for health and family welfare U T Khader’s office in Bengaluru on Friday June 26. If they are not convinced by the demands, the OBC state presidents and MLCs will go to the Vikas Soudha to draw attention to this issue,” said Poojary.

“Due to the shortage of sand, 15, 000 units under ‘Ashraya’ housing construction work are moving slowly,” he added.

“Regarding Gangolli communal conflict issue, the public have lost Rs 8.5 lac and the state government has agreed to give Rs 5 lac as compensation but as of now only R 25,000 has been released,” he alleged.

About the compensation of Rs 3 lac for victim Ratna Kottary's family he said that it had not been granted yet and urged arrest of the culprits soon.
